2013 C250 Idle Fluctuation +/- 50-100 rpm

Helllo,

I have a 2013 Mercedes C250. 44,000 miles.

I recently noticed my RPM needle fluctuating constantly +/- 50-100 rpm. This occurs constantly at idle and driving. Fully warmed up, engine idles at 600 rpm. Normally more noticeable once engine is fully warmed up. As I'm accelerating or maintaining a constant highway speed by foot or with cruise control, within a few seconds, you can see the needle go up and down very slightly. This symptom is present during idle as well. I tried searching different forums from Mercedes to other car makers and some are saying it's normal, some are saying its not. I have had only Japanese cars before and never noticed this issue so I am unsure if this is consider within normal limits for Mercedes.

The car itself drives perfectly fine. I don't feel any difference in performance throughout the rpm band. I do not hear any abnormal noise either.

I don't always keep constant watch on my RPM gauge so I am unsure how long this issue has been going on.

Thank you.

That is not normal, especially while driving. I've run rpm logs on my car and there is virtually no fluctuation.

It sounds like something vacuum/emissions systems related.

Are you still within warranty?

Thanks for your input.

I believe it is still within warranty. I scheduled an appointment for service tomorrow morning.

I will keep you updated of what they say. Thanks again.

I have had and still have this issue, been to mercedes twice, both time they reflashed the cluster, but as of now my jumps aren't as high at like yours but i still see then bouncing 10 rpms while idle or driving.

I took it in to Mercedes. They are going to run some tests. I'll keep you updated.

I'm glad to hear I'm not the only one having this issue. I'm sorry to hear they were not able to remedy your problem. I have a feeling this might be me as well. How is your car driving? Any problems driving with this problem?

Here is a video of the problem.

Let me know if the link works. Thanks.

I too have had/still have this issue and have been told it is normal in these cars. I took it into the dealer while still under warranty, and they said they "updated the software on the instrument cluster", but the RPM needle was still going to bounce a little. The car drives perfectly, so I just left it alone.

Ever figure out your problem?

Hey. Was just wondering what the outcome of your dealership visit was. What caused the idle issues.

Thanks.

Idle shouldn't fluctuate. One possibility is that there's an air leak somewhere. A common culprit is the PCV hose that runs from the top back of the valve cover (on RHS) to the air intake hose, just before the turbo. The section that fails is actually a part of the air intake hose assembly - the rubber hose at the front RHS of the engine. The hose tends to perish and tear where it joins the air intake hose - it often isn't very obvious.

I had a similar problem with my C250 and thank god is was under warranty still. It turned out to be my High Pressure Fuel Pump, which turned out to be on back order from Germany so the dealership had my car for 3 months waiting on the part, But sounds like if they've already flashed you ECU, then it could be a HPFP? But if it turned out to be this, and if your car is under warranty still.... See about being compensated if they end up keeping your car for more than a month. I still have car payments on mine and was able to submit a request and approved of getting 3 months of car payments reimbursed even though they did give me a loan car. FYI.

You probably know this, but revs go higher when the car is in Sport mode. If you are used to driving in Eco mode, which starts the car in 2nd gear, it will feel like it is revving too high. Beyond that, I suggest you return to the mechanic shop and ask them to ride with you to see the problem.

How is your car now? Has the problem of idling jitter caused more serious problems in the future?
I just bought an E-class, I am also troubled by this problem and I don’t know what the consequences will be. There are very few results that Google can search, so if you can see this reply, I hope I can get some useful information from you. Information.

My mechanic did not find a way to solve this problem and there is no fault code displayed. The driving condition of the vehicle is very good, at least I did not feel any power attenuation.

I hope you can understand. I have tried very hard to express it, but English is not my first language.

somewhat related to this. there is a backpressure sensor that might be faulty. this creates the sort of fluctuations. I changed mine when changing transmission oil and the fluctuations are gonne now. mechanicc had to check with computer to detect this is faulty sensor.
