C300 CD Player - Device Unavailable - HELP!

Hoping I can float this question out to this Mercedes community.

I have a 2010 C300, the CD player quit functioning and displays a "Device Unvailable" message, rest of the radio functions work except for an annoying beep from time to time (cause of CD player not working).

Has anybody else had this issue? I looked at a previous post but nothing conclusive was found.

First off, should this be covered under the extended warranty I have?

Secondly, the dealership needs to send this unit away to get repaired. This sounds like a big ticket item. Anyone else been able to fix this issue? If so, how did you do it?

Any thoughts?

Thank you.

ELW (extended limited warranty) is 3 years after the new car warranty expires. Assuming your car's new warranty has expired at 2014 you will have 2 years of additional warranty (like new car warranty) and 1 year of powertrain warranty to make it 3 years. So yes, if you still fall under the additional 2 years of the ELW then the CD player should be covered by MB, if not, you will be looking at a expensive repair (north of $600). Check your ELW contract and it will tell you when was the first service date of the car then count 4 years then count 2 years after that and hopefully it still falls under it.

Thanks for your insight.

Mercedes told me that the CD player is not covered under the extended warranty, which surprises me. Now the radio needs to be shipped out, I'll keep the forum posted. I'd be ok with the CD player not working, but it beeps every 10 seconds or so telling me it's not working, so I can't listen to the radio or even stream music.

Anyone else had experience with this?

i'm having the exact same issue. keep us all posted.

i was also trying to locate the fuse for the cd changer to see if that may be the issue. apparently fuse 43 is the cd changer fuse, but when i checked my fuse box in the trunk, nothing was there so not sure how to access it. chance are i'll have to pull out the cd changer unit and see if any uses on the back of the unit need to be replaced.

at first i thought it was due to a disc being stuck, but i don't even here the changer trying to work so it could be (i'm hoping) a fuse issue only.
