Hello every one,

i have c200 w204 2008, i have a problem with the esl unit i got the esl motor to replace it also i've made my way through removing the steering column and i took it all out, tried to remove the esl unit but when i try to press it down to take it out its still locked and doesnt want be unlocked, any help???

guys same problem, after getting a used esl the car shop tried two locks, every time its working fine but once installed in the car it works for 5 times and then we have a useless esl again,

any ideas?

Got the bad news today from the mechanic. My 2008 W204 with about 90,000 Kim's and full agent service history .....had the dreaded ESL problem.

Not too happy as this is a pretty expensive repair, and other than this issue, car has been great.

Has MB ever admitted that this was a design flaw, and is there a record of how many such failures there have been? It seems like quite a high hit ratio so I am surprised not to have heard of MB being taken to task for not having addressed this more proactively.

 

Got my car repaired with a used esl paid 300$ mercedes didnt help as expected also i got the emulator for future problems but anyways you have 2 options
1st is to buy a new esl which will cost you 520$

2nd buy the emulator for 130$ and bypass the esl and never think about this issue again

You can buy both if you want from the supplier I dealt with let me know if you need help

Please post supplier details. I have already ordered ESL, but I think emulator info would be useful for me, and anyone else that may suffer this in future.

In fact, had I known about this, I would have done the emulator install when I bought the car. It's a cheap(er) insurance policy!

 

The first time I noticed how the wheel locked and before reading about any of the failures it made me worried. It just sounds like something that will fail.

To me it seems like a useless security feature anyway. Without a key what use it it anyway. If someone wants to get the car that bad they can just put it on a flatbed and haul it off.

So how are these wired into the car? Take apart steering column and this wires into where the ESL wire harness would connect?

 

No emulator will work on any w204 cars without programming with special tool.
And even used ESL needs programing.

From what I can read just the keys need to be reprogrammed. Unless I am missing something.

 

no emulator will work without programming. If you read, it says you need to use there program and cable to program emulator.
I fix lots of esl,eis for w204 and how it works is.
I read EIS info and key info and combine them together and program emulator or fix original ESL.
older model like w203 doesn't need programming and emulator is just Plug and play.

 

Thanks. That site includes some software I think but am unsure about the wire you mentioned. I am at work so I'll have to read into it further.

 

You will definitely need there hardware and there software to program emulator and trust me it won't be cheap for one time use.

 

Okay, I am p*****d. ESL failure this morning. Fortunately it happens in my driveway. Sucks that you can't even move the car which was blocking other cars in the driveway. Now I am bracing for the dealer shenanigans.

 

you dont have to unless you choose to. there are work arounds as discussed above.

 

Ha.....recognized the avatar. I may try going the emulator route. It started after fiddling, but not trusting it now until it's fixed.

 

emulator for w204 models have to be programmed. If you send me eis and key I can program emulator.
