Considering the fact that the recalled air bag replacement parts not being available as of yet, I highly doubt that any dealer is scheduling service appointments for this recall...

Would swapping your steering wheel prior to this recall be problematic?

From what I understand, the steering wheel can be swapped without changing the airbag. I suppose an even better idea is to bring in the steering wheel and ask them to swap it for you when they are performing the recall....although I doubt they would entertain that idea.

Tried to link to the one Sportstick mentioned, but seems to link to another web page now

Swapping the steering wheel...why? And is it the same steering wheel or would you swap it with an different steering?

I guess it may depend on whether it is the same airbag (part number) or not...

The driver side airbag is built into the steering wheel. So removing the steering wheel, means the air bag goes with it.

I'm not clear on what it is you are trying to accomplish... So stand by for more replies....

Don't worry about the recall guys, IGB Mercedes-Benz isn't in the same boat as the other cars that have that issue. Doesn't matter that we have the same airbags made by the same company who makes those defective airbags. No risk whatsoever, though, keep on driving.

You're entitled to your own opinion, keep that in mind. Don't make things better than it appears though.

I think several folks on the forums here did the swap for aesthetics, comfort, peeling buttons, etc. My buttons are peeling and also like the look of the 3 spoke wheel vs the 4 spoke one I currently have.

Researching further, it looks like you can re-use your airbag as a member bought and installed this one:
http://www.ecklersmbzparts.com/merce...teering+Wheels

With the airbag being recalled, I was inquiring if I could find and purchase a used 3 spoke steering wheel, take it to the dealer when the recall is active, and have them swap the airbag without any problems.

Just FYI

I finally received my recall notice today.

As we know, there is no time frame for the arrival of replacement parts.

Isn't there some kind waiver or release form you can sign if you want to buy a used Mercedes from a dealer that is under this airbag recall?

There has to be something Mercedes corporate has that you can sign if you want the vehicle right now?

Huh? Not quite sure what you are asking the way you have worded your post.

Are you asking if the only way you can buy and take possession of a used Mercedes that hasn't had the recall done yet is to sign a waiver saying you agree to absolve Mercedes of any liability? If so, the answer is, no. This is a VOLUNTARY recall by Mercedes, not mandated by NHTSA.. And even if it were, that doesn't mean that as part of the recall they order the cars off the road. There are all kinds of recalls issued all the time. That doesn't mean you can't legally buy those cars.

You can still buy a used MB with this recall being open, my '09 had both airbag recalls (driver & later passenger) in place when I purchased it and it was not an issue.

I understand from MBUSA and my service department that MB is only recalling out of an abundance of caution as they are still Takata inflators but sounds like they may be of different design/chemistry than the problematic ones.

Such a fiasco.....just waiting for Takata to just call it quits. How they are still hanging on is just amazing.

You cannot buy one from a MERCEDES dealer. Mercedes Corporate will not allow any dealer to sell one... Now, carmax is different, but not a Mercedes dealer, they will NOT sell it to you. This is why I'm upset.

They recently changed the policy, at least at my autonation dealer, that as long as the recall has "available parts" it has to be done prior to sale. So the newer cars that don't have replacement airbag units available yet can still be sold.

Wow - who knew? Don't remember the cutoff year for the recalled W204 models but that has to be hurting them as I am sure they are still sitting on a number of later W204 lease returns.

As of my trans service ~1 month ago they still had no ETA on parts being available for the recall and told me to wait until further notification.

You can enter the Vin on Mercedes website to see when the completion date of the repair is, I did it and it says dec, 2018! Yea, that's two years... That means the car will sit there until then at the Mercedes dealer, outside!!! This is no joke, and is accurate.

Wow - well after some more research call me wrong. It appears the stop sale was issued way back in early 2016 but was only on 2010+ models, not sure why the recalled '08 and '09 models were not included but I digress.

I received an email from a closest MB dealer who asked me to call for the airbag recall. I emailed the other dealer where I purchased my C. They called back saying no dealer has the recall part yet.they said I can call MB corporate to find out...

Should we drive this car under recall? If due to an accident the faulty airbag explodes and injure/kill the driver, whose responsibility is it?

We have been getting them in very sporadically, i've seen a couple replaced but most cars say pending on the VMI. No clue as to what the order or logic of the recall is at this point.

When the Chevy Cobalt ignition switch recall was ongoing the affected owners delivered their vehicle to my Chevy dealers back lot. In short order it was full. And every Cobalt owner received a loaner which many of them drove for months.

There were two stacks of paperwork each two feet high on the service writer's credenza.

At conclusion of the process he had ptsd and gray hair.
