Radio Command Unit Replacement w204 2011 C250

Hello Folks,

My Radio command unit button pads have stopped working, the radio works fine, but is the button that have stopped working.

I have two questions for you folks,

1- Can this issue be fixed ? I took the car to the dealership and the said I would need a new command unit. But, what if I took it to a stereo shop to fix it ?

2- If I were to buy a new Radio Command unit, probably and after market one, when I do install the new unit is it just a matter of removing the old unit taking the wires off and attaching the wires to the unit ?? or is there some sort of software upgrades I have to go through.

Cheers,

There are often conversion harnesses when switching to aftermarket units.

Switching to another Comand HU may still require dealer involvement

What is wrong with the buttons? Perhaps you can part out something with another failed unit? Some small part has probably failed. Most likely a ribbon cable or logic board. Unless it can be isolated to a commonly available electronic component a repair shop may not be able to do much.

So if I were to buy an after market unit the dealer has to install for me .. I am going to give them a call tomorrow and see what they say.

I strongly believe it is something very minor as you have mentioned earlier, where can I fix this ?? because every time I call a stero car shop and they know it is a mercedes benz radio they'll be like no we can not do anything with it. Everything is working fine expect from the buttons

Thanks for the replay, mate

No, the dealer wouldn't need to be involved with an aftermarket unit.

But I haven't seen too many threads involving aftermarket HU replacements on these cars so I don't know too much about what's available.

If it were me I'd probably try getting a used or dead system and try swapping the parts out. But I'd probably just wind up with with two broken units, lol.

There is an electronics forum on this site. I'd probably try there too.

Sweet, tbh I think I am just going to buy another unit from eBay or the junk yard it is not that expensive 200$ including shipping.

I will definitely post a thread in the electronics sections and see what replied I will get over there.

One more last question, some off the command unit come with the heated seat buttons which I do not have in my car, the units are the same number as my command unit the only difference is that they have the heated seats buttons. Do you think they'll not work on my car ? Again these units are the same as command unit

Thank you again for the reply

Have you tried disconnecting the battery for a minute or two? I've resolved some really obscure bugs with a simple battery connection reset, and it's free to try.

Those buttons aren't part of the Comand head unit that I know of. The button strip with heated seat buttons is its own part.

Any idea how to repair the command head unit buttons? I don't want to use stickers. I was hoping I could find a donor command head unit and take the faceplate from it. Any idea if this is possible?

Probably easier to replace the entire unit with one from a salvage yard.
