Dude you're 21 and you drive a benz, unless you move to Jag which I don't think is even a good option I don't think you could get more modest. E-Class.

When I say modest I mean humble, thinking about just getting a luxury grill. Im kind of tired of the impressions I get from other drivers

I say a Prius, why do you care what others think? you can always tint your windows and other drivers won't see you, if it bugs you that much.

I'm 33, bought an 08 C350 sport 4matic last year for the first bit I felt weird about having a Benz but I got used to it and traded it in on a 2012 C350 coupe this year and couldn't be happier!

Who cares what anyone else thinks, it's you that has to be happy.

Agreed. They're just jealous. I'm younger than you are, I've just learned to live with it.

On a side note, I like to leave the luxury grills for the old people >

Anyone that knows German cars knows a C-Class is on the modest end. You could spend more on a Hyundai. But I've noticed people react to the Benz like unlike anything I've experienced before. I've even had an Audi in the past.

It's much like the clothes you wear and the initial impression it makes on people.

Thinking Im going to get a luxury grill and have it sprayed body color (iridium).

Ive got the lighting package with xenons but I installed the OEM C63 gray tinted headlights, have the gloss black c300 grill and panorama roof. Also 2010 style side mirrors. Even though the cars an 08, I think it looks sweet and have gotten comments that it looks newer than it really is.

Its also almost a personal thing, just graduated college and I want to give off "coming up" vibes, not "already has it all" vibes. Just what goes through my head.

That being said, Ive had the car for 5 years and I love driving a Benz, also want to keep it because its sentimental and would have a tough time letting go of it. Ive been a huge Benz fan ever since I was 10.

Thats why Im thinking a body colored luxury grill would be a cool looking mod with the C63 lights and also fix this feeling a bit.

I think how owners percieve themselves behind the wheel of their Benz is an interesting topic.

Im just coming up, Ive got a C-class! Lol

Also the AM radio doesnt work which really bothers me, works fine on our 04 pickup.

I was 22 when i had my 08 C300, this year (25 now) i upgraded to the 2014 C300, its the small details on the newer model that i love so much. I hated the 2015+ "iPad" look so i decided to get a year older.

You think you have it bad? I was 18 years old in 2010, and I was driving a 2009 C300 in high school(Imagine an 18 year old highschooler in a 2015 C300 today). A lot of kids would spitefully insist it was a lease or that it was my parents' car. Jealousy really exposed the true character of many of my peers.

Even on the road, people would look shocked that I was driving that car. I don't even know why they would assume it was mine. Necks would turn...it was just a c class. I knew kids around my age who were driving M3's.

This is such a first world problem though, I honestly can't complain.

Ah but see bro, that's where you are wrong. The only difference here is mine is a 2010 > and that it is 2016. I still took the bus, couldn't trust other ppl to park near me :P

Glad to see there are people are here to relate to. I got my C when I was in 11th grade, it was 3 years old but it might as well of been new. I wasnt the only one with a new benz or beemer though.

I like the new Acura TLX, just dislike the dual screens inside.

Lexus and Infiniti are gawdy, Acura is a cool brand. Id say Honda is the most advanced Jap brand as well (they make robots and planes).

The C class is still special to me. There is something about how everything feels, the buttons, the layout of the COMAND and gauges, theres nothing else like it and Ive had the car for 5 years I still enjoy driving it.

Judgment never stops. I'm a bit older than many of you guys but you can have quite the opposite problem. If you are a male over the age of 35 and live around where I do you'll get looked down on for not driving a European luxury brand. It becomes a necessity for business.

I'm caught between two issues now. Peers often think I'm driving an S class. So I get knocked down for having a C. Then non-car types judge me for driving a luxury brand. Last week I was accused of driving a bourgeois car. I can't win, lol.

I guess the marketers at the car companies have done their jobs at making the image.

This is quite amusing considering my friend's father switched from an E class to a ford for business. He owns an architect firm and when he does consulting for customers, they would think he is a rip off or too expensive since he was driving a benz. He's noticed a significant difference ever since he switched, but he hates the ford.

An 08 C300 IS modest. Anyone can buy one for 16-18k. That's by no means expensive. You probably think that people think you "have it all", but most people can tell that a c300 is one of the cheaper, non-AMG, base(ish) of its class.

Mine is a c300. I bought it because its cheap and i wont be as mad when i ruin things on it, lol.

I could see that if one was doing consulting depending on the customer base. If he was working with smaller businesses and individuals the Ford would be better. If he did mansions or a class office space the Benz would be better.

Depends on the job. Makes me wish I went to med school, that way I could drive to the office in my AMG or 911 Turbo and not worry about who sees me.

I was in High school (barely 17, senior) when i owned a automatic Boxster. First year in college, traded up to a manual Boxster S (still 17 lol) and next semester, traded up to a 2013 C350 (18). Now 19 and sticking with the car. I've gotten the jealous look from people all my driving life. Who cares if people stares. They just want what you have but can't afford. In the end, it all depends on if you can afford it, if it makes you happy and if it fit your driving needs. People will think you're humble as long as you don't brag about your car. I never walked around the halls telling people i drove a Porsche or a Benz. If people ask me, i tell them. Other than that, i keep my business to myself. If people get all impressed because they think i'm rich, i deny it and the topic moves on. Bottom line, enjoy yourself while you can and don't brag about it.

He does homes mainly, and its upscale stuff. The last house I remember he built and sold was worth $5 million, but in our area there are a lot of wealthy individuals who look for good value. So when they're looking for value, a mercedes benz doesn't scream it lol. Pretty odd how his results are the opposite of logical reasoning.

This is exactly how I am about my car and people.

Honestly, I'm not super impressed with my 2008 C350. The interior is okay, speakers are bland (my 96 Corvette with stock speakers had more bass), power is sometimes wonky even with a tune, and I hear horror stories about the steering locking up and costing almost $2k to fix. Now, the car does handle well, but if I could go back in time I would get something else.

I just took a quick four-day vacation to Maui and drove a 2016 Mustang convertible and while it doesn't handle like my Mercedes, the engine felt good and the suspension was smooth. I would love to get a newer 2013/2014 Mustang GT, but living in Hawaii they go for much more than on the mainland and they are hard to find. I had a beautiful Legend Lime 2005 GT that I had cammed and it sounded great, but it was manual and I started to have some initial knee tightness and I knew if I kept it the tightness/pain would only get worse.
