Secondary Cat Delete
I had my E63 AMG square quad tips welded on today, but ran out of time for the Magnaflow Xpipe. Now today was the first time I actually got a chance to look under the car. Is the secondary cat the little ball right in front of the OEM resonator? Does anyone have a problem with removing the secondary cat with a CEL or anything? I'm considering deleteing that second cat if there are zero problems related to that.

Yes, that is your secondary cats. From what i remember, they do not have sensors so you can cut them off without a cel. just make sure your car is at full operating temperature before going in for a smog.

Maybe this is a stupid question... what exactly are you referring to when you say "smog"?

Actually, there is only ever an inspection required when you buy a vehicle/change of ownership I.E. if you bought a car in the 80's you could still be driving it today with NO inspection....

Good thing Pennsylvania doesn't have smog tests! I mean I used to run turbo straight pipes on a few of my old cars and still got them to pass. I'm not worried about that part.
I was more worried if the car would start throwing codes.

Oooh, well here in CA, we have the strictest emissions test, need one every 2 years for registration. Requires a visual testing as well to make sure you dont have the cat bypass but if you know a guy to hot smog then you're good lol i'd run straight pipe if hot smog wasnt so expensive

Has anybody done a secondary cat delete but kept the resonator?
All I can find on youtube are either resonator delete with X-pipe or both resonator and secondary cat delete.
I find that the sound is a bit too raspy and obnoxious when both are deleted, and just a resonator delete with X-pipe is a little too quiet. So I wonder if only a secondary cat delete will be a bit louder than just resonator delete..

If you want your car to be louder, you should just do a muffler delete. To me when i did my x-pipes, i found literally NO difference in sound from stock. i felt (still feel) that my x pipes were a complete waste of money (about $200 in parts/labor). Then about a week later, i did a muffler delete with amg quad tips. The muffler delete really opened up the exhaust. This was exactly what i was looking for. loud with minimal highway drone. The purpose of a resonator is to reduce low frequency drone. I think with the resonators on, my minimal drone would be 3/4 of what it is now, maybe even 1/2. Now i wish that I have never put on the x-pipes. Why not change it back? because i dont want to spend anymore money on changing up the stock exhaust, am saving up for a real exhaust.

Heres my story.
1: did x pipe replacement of resonator. Wasn't loud enough
2: did muffler delete. Too loud
3: installed magnaflow mufflers. Sounded a lot deeper but wasn't loud enough.
4: did a secondary cat delete. Perfect!! Loudness was in between magnaflow mufflers and muffler delete.
