Question Luxury to Sport Rear Bumper Conversion Question

I've been down this road before. I have converted nearly everything else on my C300 2008 to the Sport version, but I have yet to successfully tackle getting the rear bumper cover replaced. My issue last time was that apparently the Luxury rebar juts out ~2" more than the Sport (or so the guy at the shop asserted that). I don't want to go through that again.

Has anyone here ever been successful with this conversion? Can anyone testify to how far the rebar sticks out between the Luxury and the Sport trims?

Any advice for making this successfully work (be it recommended bumpers that are known to work during the conversion, etc.) would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Honestly I don't think its going to make a huge difference, but I assume you want to do this because you want AMG diffusers and whatnot. That's still a lot of work.

Correct, because I want the diffuser. Wouldn't it just be replacing the bumper? Anything else I need to keep in mind? Maybe my last attempt was a fluke with it not fitting over the rebar. I think I will contact the dealer to see if they think there will be any potential issues with doing this.

I don't understand how the rebar would stand out more than the sport bumper, as I'm pretty sure both stick out the same distance. Seems like a load of bs tbh.

I get the same feeling as you man. Maybe the bumper that I bought was made the wrong size for some reason? I watched them put it on, and for some reason it wouldn't fit. Maybe they just didn't know what they were doing, haha. I think that I even looked up the rebar part number and they were the same for both trims I believe come to think of it.

Anyway, do you have any distributers/brands that you like so I can order a Sport (AMG) trim one for my Luxury trim?

I'd probably just get a replacement from rockauto, or if you're lucky there might be some listed here on the classifieds section.

Car-parts.com it's all the junk yards you should find what you need. I'm surprised it's not a direct fit.

I've never read about that problem and I believe it's bs. If anything, it should be the opposite, sport looks like it sticks out more. They're probably same dimensions though.

Ya I asked my dealer if the c63 steering wheel would fit they said no it's impossible.... lol proved them wrong. It would make no sense to make that kind of change on a production line. I thought the only difference was the suspension on the luxury w204.

I don't want a replacement necessarily, but one that comes with a quad diffuser (not carbon fiber), so I don't think that the OEM part is necessarily what I want (please let me know otherwise though). Also, the guys tried to fit it while I watched, and it didn't fit for some reason. Maybe they were just bad at their job? lol

Come to think of it, I might as well look for the 2012 AMG-style retrofit rear bumper that would fit my 2008. If anyone has any recommendations on where to find that, I'd appreciate it!

Where did you buy your old one from?

Also yes, I would go 2012+. However the bumpers are not sold with the diffusers. If the bumper is being sold with a diffuser, it's usually molded in / garbage quality. Those are ones to stay away from.

You have to buy the diffuser separately.

My old one that I returned due to the alleged fitment issues (from years ago) was some store on ebay. Is this an okay route to purchase the next one? And thanks for the tip! Also, what do they call the 2012+ style bumper? It's a bit of a difficult search on ebay. Outside of ebay, I only found this: https://www.bodykits.com/i-31634684-...er-109866.html They hit you with a pricey shipping cost I guess to make returns not worth your while.

No, the store sucks but the brand that makes the part sucks more. You need to look for OEM replacement* not body kits style replacement. That's why car-part, or rockauto will at least be reliable and you will know that it will fit.

Also that's fiberglass pretty sure, which will break anyways, impossible to install.

Just search 2013 c300 rear bumper

Great look out, thanks! I thought that I needed a retrofit version, which was why I had a hard time finding anything. So you think that a 2012 or a 2013 rear bumper cover would fit on a 2008? If so, great. If not, then I'll need more advice.

check out car-parts.com, you can buy the C63 rear bumper with diffuser on it if your going OEM route. like i said before its junk yards find one with no damage on it, or a front end collision. its your cheapest bet.

Thanks for the advice guys. I'm going to order a 2012 bumper from RockAuto as suggested by Adi-Benz and hope for the best. With that out of the way, do you guys have suggestions on where you would buy a carbon fiber small fin diffuser and quad tips?

eBay pretty much.

Make sure you get the right diffuser for model year as you know they are different

Reviving this. I’m looking to retrofit the sports bumper on my luxury as well. Any success with your last try? Did you need any extra parts for the conversions? Clips, supports, screws, etc? Or just the bumper cover and diffuser?

Let me know. And any pics you might have of the conversion.
