Reyn3545, appreciate the rapid response. 120k miles, wow that's a good much but what MB mechanics have told me is the 100k mile mark is where Mercedes cars truly begin the "break in" period.... My 2008 C300 is at 99,999 miles, got it used 5 years ago with 44k miles. Had quite a bit of issues with it with the major one being the Electronic Steering Lock; the car all of a sudden would not start, no matter what I did. had to order a new ESL, that was about $3k. Also found from this forum other people had the same issue then, with their cars. Right now, in addition to the sunroof, the SAM (Signal Acquisition Module) that controls the parking, fog lights and headlights is causing the passenger side headlight to be dimmer that the driver side and also causes the passenger side front parking light and fog light to flash or stay on intermittently when the car is locked and turned off. Bought the module and will get that replaced within the next two weeks.

I have to admit, I crossed my fingers when I bought this one, but it drove and looked so nice, I had to take a chance. It's got tons of power, probably too much for a 17 year old kid, but he really seems to take care of it. So far, no major issues, he's been driving it for about a year.

I just took the plunge on a 2013 S550 a few months ago.. love the twin turbo!

These cars seem to drop so much in value after about 3 years, then they seem to stabilize a bit. I've been buying cars at that 3-year mark for several years.. haven't had a problem yet that the dealer didn't take care of.

You are correct about the initial drop in value after 3 years then stabilizing. I'm sure your S550 must be a really sweet and creamy powerful car with those twin turbos! LOL.... How is the transmission shifts, is it typical Mercedes with a bit of delay on upshift and down shift? This is a concern I have Mercedes Benz...an area they really need to improve on.

it seems pretty smooth, but from what I understand, the 50K mile transmission fluid change is absolutely mandatory. We had an E350 that didn't get that flush, and sure enough, it would get sluggush on shifts when cold. The dealership did a "software update" to the transmission that helped, but since I knew about the issue and the car's mileage, I decided to trade it on on a newer E350.

You are indeed a loyal Mercedes Benz customer. Your dealer ought to be giving good deals on your cars. Thanks for the info on the transmission oil change. I suppose the same might apply to my C300? Also, I wonder if a software update is available for my car as well? I'll have check the mechanic on this.

You should check the owners manual, some transmissions recommend 40K - 50K intervals, some are 80K, but what ever is recommended, be sure and do it. I'm not big on doing every maintenance item on the planet, but I've heard that this is one you will wnt to stay on top of. You can probably find a good independent MB shop in your area to do it cheaper than the dealer.

Mercedes needs to reprogram the overhead control panel module, it's lost it's vin identification within the module there's a bulletin on this exact issue and Mercedes specifically states absolutely no parts need to be replaced! I have the notice on my computer stating exactly the procedure I owned the exact year make model and it did the exact same thing.

Hi Reyn3545, I will most certainly check with my MB Mechanic about the changing the transmission oil as I have also heard that it is extremely critical to have it done, and if not done it can become a very costly adventure to repair. Will keep you posted on that.

thanks, now the solution is making sense because based on what's happening, it does appear to be some sort of control issue.

Excellent, I would be very interested in receiving that information if that's ok with you sdenny89. As it is good to know from Mercedes that no parts are needed, else it could have been another expensive venture.

Hi,
I have been through this twice with the sunroof closing like it is stuttering, and yes only way is a reset of the sunroof module by Mercedes.

The dealers said the the most likely cause of the memory loss in the module was low battery voltage and asked if I have been having trouble with starting which no on problem was the reply, within a week the battery was going flat and had to be replaced.
So I would be asking for the car battery to be tested and sunroof reset at the same time would be my advice.

Thanks, NZ-Merc. I appreciate the advice. Will be sure to let the MB mechanic know.
