Issues with Sunroof
Hi All,
I'm having issues with the sunroof closing, which just started suddenly in my 2008 C300. The sunroof opens smoothly and automatically when I press the switch once, however, when I press the switch once to close it automatically, it does not close. Therefore, I have to constantly press the switch for the sunroof to begin closing and it does not close in a smooth fashion. it makes multiple small movements of stop and go as it closes. Took the car to the certified MB mechanic and was told that he never seen that before and don't know what the issue is.
Can anyone help/offer some advice please? I use my sunroof almost everyday so I really need it to be operating properly.

Ok, thanks to everyone for your replies/suggestions. Will take the car back to mechanic and have him reset the sunroof and lubricate it also. Will also post the outcome to the forum.

How did it go? My sunroof makes an odd sound sometimes, nothing major, could be normal but it's not a nice sound so I thought otherwise but dealer assured me that it was normal...
Would love to know what happened with yours so I know how to proceed when my inevitably breaks.

I know the owners manual states to inspect and lubricate the Pano roof but doesn't state anything about the normal sunroof. I have kept my tracks and mechanisms clean for the last eight years but never added any lube....still seems to have a nice film on them...
Couldn't really decide which lube to use...considered a couple shots of WD-40 Specialist Silicone but decided to leave well enough alone. It opens and closes as smooth as day one but I know it's time to do something.
What are you guys using?

Mercedes actually sells a grease that they use for Sunroofs. It is heinously expensive - but you can buy small quantities of it (more than you will ever need) here:

Hi michail71, it sounds like some teeth on a gear or the tracks are missing and it ONLY makes that clicking sound when closing the sunroof from sliding or from tilt. However, Opening for sliding or tilts works like a charm and is always automatic and smooth. So for sure the issue occurs only with closing. This leads me to think that logically, there is a SEPARATE track or gear for closing, and opening the sunroof.

Guys I still haven't been able to take the car back to the mechanic to check the sunroof issue. I did check the manual and it recommends cleaning/lubricating the sunroof every 3 years. Hopefully the mechanic is available this week to assess the issue.

No like a rubbing sound midway through. Had it serviced once, never fixed it, out of warranty now, it may be normal though... I'd like to hear someone else's that works fine.
I hope the issue gets resolved for OP. Please let us know the outcome.

Hi all, I spoke to the mechanic and he gave me instructions to try resetting the sunroof, which I did but it still did not resolve the issue. He wants me to bring the car in.

We have a 2008 C350 (bought about a year ago for my son's first car), and the sunroof does the same thing. Very smooth opening, but very choppy to close. It seems to close fully, no leaks, but the process is very jerky.
He also seems to have a fuel sensor problem. When the car is started, it reports accurately, but after about 10 minutes, the needle moves toward empty, eventually going completely "empty" after several minutes.

Hi Reyn3545, wow, its good hear from another owner who is experiencing the exact same issue as I am. Have you taken it to the dealer to find out the issue? I should be taking my car in for service B within the next two weeks and will let the MB Mechanic have a look at it again, though they tried resetting the sunroof but to no avail.
Can you let me know the outcome from your side please? Will also let you know mine.
Thanks

Nah, we haven't done anything yet. I figure a car with 120K miles on it will have one or two things to "deal with"... He's got a lot fewer problems than I did with my 1972 Vega, so I've done my part! Actually, I a very positively impressed with this car. Plenty of power, absolutely spotless on the inside and out, and we got it for what I considered was a great price. I do need to get the fuel level sensor fixed, but in over a year, that's the only issue we've had. This is the 6th MB we've owned, and all have been very dependable.. the dealer sales rep loves me!
