Knocking Noise When Parking

Hey guys!

Just curious if anyone else hears a metal knocking noise when they put the car in park and release the brake? Its not loud, sounds like metal popping from expansion or something--not really sure how to describe it. If you've ever poured out hot water into a metal sink (cooking noodles, etc), it sounds like the sink does when the metal expands from the heat. I'm not sure where the sound comes from, sounds like underneath the car (so maybe it is just metal contracting after being hot while driving?).

It doesn't sound too concerning or loud, just wanted to see if anyone else hears this noise. Thanks for your help!

-Steven

I think it's just the sound when the pin dropped in the parking hock inside the transmission. Pretty normal, nothing to worry about. You can notice the car could be moving just a bit forward or downward, depending on the slope of the road. Of course, if you are on a very flat road, you won't be hear the pin dropped in and the car won't move at all.

Ah yeah that might be it, though it happens on level surfaces as well (so does the jerking forward). Nothing feels weird while driving though, so its probably nothing. Thanks for the information!

Definitely your issue!

Don't worry, perfectly normal.
I worried too as my MB is my first auto!

It's very normal and actually is a sign of proper operation! Now you know she's in park!! Hahaha.
