C220 W204 RPM surging when cruising, need help

Hi Guys,

I've just purchased a 2009 W204 C220 CDI. I've noticed that it has a strange like hunting for rpms when cruising on the highway and slight acceleration. No movement when idling. Checked the air filter and its looks very dirty. Have ordered a new one.

What do you guys think could be the reason for this strange rpm surge? Was going to order maybe a new fuel filter as well.

Have attached a video of the rpm surging for your help.

Thanks in advance. (Sorry for the awful music)

A possibility is that you're going 65, which means any little bump could potentially cause the car to add a little more gas/let off to stay exactly on 65. It's staying between 2000 and 2100 rpms, maybe even safe to say 2050 and 2100 rpms. Seems pretty normal to me.

Thanks for the reply. I was thinking if its normal or not, cos its on a flat straight road when I was filming this.

07,
Do you physically notice the hunting or just the movement of the guage?.

If you do not notice it why worry.

Re the dirty air cleaner , its sounds as if you should check the cars service record .If in doubt I would suggest a full service of filters & fluids. The ATM should be fully flushed every 60,000 km .

Enjoy your car. It was a great choice.

Thanks Carsy!

Yea, I don't feel the surge, just observed the needle dancing up and down when .

Think I will do the ATM flush and the filters too.

I love the C220 wagon.

Thanks for the tips.
