Check engine light, no message.

Tonight on the way home my check engline light came on without any message. I have an Autel obd2 reader but I get a link error. Looks like I need to buy a new reader. Anyone have a suggestion on an affordable reader that will work for sure on the Mercedes?
I looked at some of the Bluetooth models but not sure if there are any that would work with my iPhone.
I appreciate any suggestions.
Thanks

BTW I have a 2011 C250 with a 2.5L V6

I found an Innova 3100i at a local parts store. It's around $100. Is there something better I can get in same price range or slightly more?

Thanks I checked that right away and unfortunately I'm not that lucky
I was hoping to find out what others are using for scan tools.

The car is capable of telling you if it is a loose fuel cap without triggering a CEL.

Do Autozone or Advance Auto or O'Reilly exist where you are? You could get a quick scan there. I have had a $27 code scanner work on my Benz, so I'm not sure that there isn't just something wrong with your particular scanner. OBDII is universal.

My scanner is a cheap Autel ms300 that I paid $20 for. I think the cheap scanners are hit and miss. I guess I'll go buy that Innova 3100 for $100 and see if it works better.

I'm in Canada, so I don't have any of those part stores that do cheap or free scans. PartSource used to do it for free but then they were having issues with people complaing when the part they told them to buy didn't fix the issue. So now they quit doing it. A few people ruin it for everyone.

So I think I'm going with the Autel AL619. Anyone have experience with this model?

This may not help, but - my experience. 2014 C300, cel, no message when we are returning form Texas in the middle of nowhere. Car was running fine and temp normal, but, I was worried. Calles MB customer and did as instructed. Got out of the car - removed gas cap - reinstalled gas cap. Closed the drivers door - with the key fob locked and unlocked the doors 3 times. Advised that it was ok to drive the car as long as it seemed to drive correctly. Reset was supposed to take place within 36 hours - if not, take to dealer. Continued on our trip home. Sometime in the next 24 hours, the light went off - it hasn't returned. Took it to the local MB dealer and was advised that they did not need to check/clear any fault codes. As long as the light doesn't return, I'm good to go - according to the dealer service assistant.

YMMV.

thanks for the reply!

Wish this was my case. I pulled the code and got code p2414. Which says; o2 sensor bank 1 sensor 1 exhaust sample error. So seems to me I have to replace my precat o2 sensor on passenger side. Stealership wants $550 for just the part...I ordered Bosch OEM replacement online for $150 shipped. Now I have to see if I can get my hands in there to change it. Not gunna be easy. Tight spot.

Robc250, I bet that MB sensor is Bosch made and the same darn thing.

Cam sensors are $189 ea up here from the dealership and $39 ea from Auto Electric here in town. Same exact item made by Bosch.

Ya that's the last time I even goto the dealer. Not to mention they aren't very nice to talk to. Makes me not want to purchase a MB again.

My local dealership is pretty good and the parts guys give me deals but sometimes a genuine MB part can be obscenely priced and sometimes surprisingly cheap.

The cam magnets were cheap and the Bosch ones were around the same price so I got from the dealership but for some reason those cam sensors were ridiculous. Even the MB parts guy laughed at the price.
