Thumbs down Speeding Ticket

Hi

Stuff isnt going bad enough so I got pulled over 2 weeks ago.

This is my first time sooooooo

I'd like to aim to get rid of my points and ideally not get my insurance bumped up as its high enough. 6pts for 24 over, state of WI. You dudes from WI will prolly be able to help me best.

So how can I negotiate points n stuff? Plead not guilty then at pretrial try to settle something? Cause the cop got me on camera and stuff and it will just make it worse if he ends up being there at the trial. So what do I do Wasn't even in the Benz since its been a paperweight.

I know I can take a class and get rid of 3 points but if I can try and not get it on insurance at all that would be A1. Anyone know how much class costs too?

Not sure of WI law, but I'm a cop in PA. We can switch it to a 3111(a) which is failure to traffic control devices. It's essentially a larger fine and no points ($225 I think now). See how that subsection works for you in your state.

Looks like it doesnt exist in WI.

Less points less insurance increase right? Or do they just see the result anyway and bump it up regardless?

Hire a lawyer and go to court.

If he does not show up, it gets dropped.

I don't know about Wisconsin, but here in Florida, if he does show up, the court usually withelds the adjudication. Another term for you are not convicted of it, but still guilty.

In other words, witheld adjudication just means you pay court costs (usually same price as ticket) and nothing else is assessed.

If he shows up, it's a witheld adjudication. I've received speeding tickets. One got dropped because they didn't show up.

And the others were a witheld of adjudication because they showed up.

The state wants your money; they do not want your insurance to go up from a ticket, that's why they witheld the adjudication. They get their money and you go along on your way.....if you pay the court costs.

As I was told from multiple police officers...

Since your not convicted the insurance companies cannot increase rates.

My first ticket in PA was 6 months ago 27 over and I pleaded not guilty then pleaded guilty, but asked for no points in the court room being my first ticket and being late to work. I got it reduced to 5MPH over which is no point and fine went from $220 to $97. My second was a week ago in NJ 20 over. I am just paying that one because apparently minor violations such as speeding tickets don't transfer points from NJ to PA, that one is $200. Should of bought the radar detector I saw on the classifieds 2 weeks ago for $250 .

According to PennDot, minor traffic offenses such as speeding, red light, stop sign offenses, etc. will not transfer to your Pennsylvania driving record. If you have a commercial drivers license, all offenses (“serious” or “non-serious”) will transfer.

In Texas one can request "deferred adjudication". You pay the fine and if you avoid receiving any additional tickets for 60-120 days (set at the discretion of the judge) it does not appear on your record. The local government agency gets their money, you keep your insurance rates.

Had one for 80 in 55 in NC while visiting my son. Got an attorney. Got it reduced to equipment error. No points. Cost me 135 for the attorney. 300.00 for ticket and court cost. I did not even go to court. Attorney handled it. I live in Texas.

If I say my spedo wasnt working [classic excuse] I won't get any points. Should I try and do that? If I need fix-it proof I have an indy that can do if for me (as a lie duh). Still get the ticket and found guilty so idk if insurance will go up or not.

Lots of people do it here, even the lawyers do it (kinda no point in hiring them then tho)

If I was a judge and someone tried that excuse on me I would have the impression that the person is clumsily trying to get out of a ticket, is being evasive and not taking responsibility. I would be more inclined to be tougher on a person like that. But that's just me. Plus, if the officer shows up and the judge asks him if you had mentioned you had a defective speedometer during the stop and he says you didn't I would think that it was a made up story. If you did have a bad speedometer I would think you would be anxious to point that out.

Never good to get a ticket for a moving violation, but I would think it would depend more on your age, the points involved and your driving record more than anything else. Try and see if the points can be reduced and see what happens. Be honest and hope for the best. Talk to a lawyer and see what he says. Might be money well spent.

Good luck and let us know how it goes.

True but all they want is money really. When my dad got pulled over he was honest and got nothing, he said nearly everyone else used that excuse fine. Talked to my other friends and the one that used the excuse worked. Plus the cop wont be there unless i take it to trial. Idk, a lot of possibilities.

Thanks and will do

Does 'Rosendale' hit a nerve with anyone from 'Sconnie?

I got pinched in Rosendale (they actually have Tshirts at the local gas stations that say "Rosendale...That's the Ticket" That may not be the exact slogan, but it's pretty blasted close).

We were at my daughter's basketball tournament in Ripon and had to come thru Rosendale to get home. 43 MPH in a 25 MPH school zone (thankfully it was Sunday). Came up over the hill and there he was (PINCHED!!).

I live about an hour away and REALLY didn't want to go to court to throw myself on the bench begging for mercy ...so I emailed (and called) the local DA. We went back and forth a few times, I told him just what happend and never tried to BS him. Told him it had been many years since my last (and only) ticket and I was only asking to see if there was something that could be done to save points and insurance.

Dropped it to a 'Parking on the wrong side of the road' ticket. Cost me an extra $3.00 but no points, no insurance increase---just the loss of pride when we ran upon the rest of our group that had passed us and had to listen to 'WHAT THE HELL...IT WAS ROSENDALE YOU DUMB***!!!'

Honesty worked for me there and I did the same when my teenage daughter slid through a stop sign, and a ditch and a fence.....when it was nasty icy. Again a fine, but no points, no insurance increase.

I did not do anything. No paperwork. I was driving a rented BMW X3. I would get an attorney to take care of it.

A-Benz.

A decent fine & further costs will make you slow down , be a more aware & safer driver.

It is a PIA to be fined but you should man up ,be responsible & pay the bloody bill.

I have never heard of so much drivel on this post.

You act like nobody gets tickets.....everyone speeds to a extent....

He is asking how to not get points assessed, not how to avoid paying a ticket......

Read.

All they want is my money, so I could care less. If it was in a populated area or near a school or something, maybe I'd feel some remorse.

The court system here is made to pull money for tickets. I just don't want to have to pay higher insurance.

You pay higher insurance because you are a higher risk to the insurance company.

As far as they are concerned you break the traffic laws & or an inattentive driver so are more likely to have an accident.

I question your thinking ability when you discuss likely shonky actions on a public forum before possibly going to court.

Pay the fine ,take the points & be face up to your responsibilities.

I hear what you are saying about tickets/fines being a money generator, but on the other hand, if you got caught 24mph over the speed limit, that is pretty blatant, no matter where it was. If you were doing 49 mph in a 25 mph zone or 95 mph in a 70 mph area that is asking for trouble. 5-10 over, yeah, you could argue that is getting picky. 24 over? That is a lot tougher one to explain away.

Where did you get busted?

I understand what you guys are saying but theres no reason I shouldn't be able to negotiate it. I always take others safety in consideration no matter the speed. But theres also a difference between doing it on purpose and doing it on accident. Yes, I know that it doesn't matter when people are at risk but like I said there was no one.

The empty part of drexel.

I don't know that anyone is against you trying to negotiate to get it reduced or trying to pile on. These things always suck. I think it's more that you don't seem to take any responsibility that you were in the wrong at all and instead that it is all a money grab by the municipality. The area you mentioned is pretty open, wide and not generally heavily traveled most of the time. But going 24 over seems more than just by accident and when you are going that fast relative to the posted speed you shouldn't be surprised you could get pulled over. Hope it goes as well it can for you in court.
