c300 waundering
I have a 2011 sport c300 4 matic with 18 inch amg wheels and 80,000 miles. when I bought it 4 years ago it had new continental tires and 29,000 miles.
about 4000 miles ago I put same new continental tires on it and the fronts started "feathering". Had it aligned and when I got it back it seemed to have no directional stability. it would pull with the crown so I would correct and it would then it would go up the crown. it seemed no correction could be small enough. driving along at 60 mph you have to constantly correct left and right.
back to the alignment place and then another. play with toe in and toe out. got better but not cured.
At the 80,000 mile service had the dealer confirm the problem. They had to put new tires on the front and do another front and rear alignment. Problem is much better but still goes left goes right cannot make a small enough correction.
Thanks,
gwr
If you don't have a staggered set up you could change your tyres front to rear to make sure there is not rim damage or a tyre manufacturing fault.
been to 2 front end shops and the dealer all say front end tight.
Stock 18" AMG wheels that came with the car and I spun them with the car on a rack and they run true.
The tires it came to me with were brand new and went 40,000 miles with no problems.
I put on the same make and model tire and within 3000 miles they were feathering.
I agree that it is something worn and I checked about a new rack and found none were available only remans I find it surprising that there are no new racks available
I was always running the tires at 32-34 psi until I put the new tires on and then put them at 35 Front an 38 rear as the door says. after messing with the alignment to try and cure the problem I put the pressures back to 34 F&R and the severity of the instability decreased dramatically.
Thanks for the response.

Check your lower control arm bushings. I had one fail. Started at about 40k miles but was hard to identify by dealer until it got worse about 60k miles
