P0016 & P0017 code on W204 C300
I am getting P0016 and P0017 code on my 2008 C300 W204. I saw information about M272 engines having cam sprocket problems. Checking with Daimler dealership they mentioned this is not one of them. If I am driving around in the city the Check Engine Light (CEL) goes away. But once I get on the Freeway driving 70 miles steady I will get the CEL after two drive cycles. Again the CEL will clear itself after 2 -3 city drive cycles. Anyone has clue how to find out which Cam sensor or cam adjustment solenoid is bad? Daimler dealership charges 125 bucks to just diagnose.
Thanks in advance
Thanks in advance

Thanks IGB for the response. However the question is even though my vehicle supposedly have the improved balance shaft gear - does the M272 engine still have issues at higher mileage? Does this mean that the chain and gear for balancer shaft have to be replaced? Does anyone have a 2008 C300 with the engine part number beyond the TSB that has the issue and had timing chain/balancer gear replaced? I have been changing engine oil with Mobil 1 0W40 European formula full synthetic at every 10K miles instead of 13K recommended miles by Daimler. Anyone else have similar issues? My vehicle is just under 120K miles.

You just probably need to replace the cam magnets or cam sensors. Easy to do and parts are cheap although the sensor and magnet near the oil cooler are a pain in the a$$ to change.

As a followup for my thread 2 years back, now after 2 years of getting the P0016 and P0017, I drove for around 40K miles. Now the engine started misfiring at idle. The vehicle has aprox 152K miles. It showed other codes indicating cylinder 2 and 6 misfiring - just out of the blue. The codes are still there ie P0016 and P0017.
Replaced the spark plugs and the issues is still there. Now looking at the ignition coils.
Has anyone else have problems with C2008 and higher model years with Cam, crank ?
Thanks

Engine light on or off?

When you get these codes just change the appropriate camshaft solinoid. You could try removing them and cleaning them. I've had to change mine 3 times in 50k miles. They seem to get stuck. The plunger will stick and if you shake them the plunger will freely move. They are cheap and easy to replace.

Mine still has the codes. It is probably the chain or timing advance mechanism not working properly. Mine has 175K now. Not driving much now due to work from home. Otherwise the vehicle runs in a similar fashion to 2 or 3 years back.
