Looking into one of these but a little overwhelmed with which one I should order...

I have one on my 2011 S63. It is a little skippy and the tech support says that it's not 100 percent compatible with my BT in my car. Also it does not integrate very well.

I've been using Tune2Air to stream music since I got the car and I haven't really had an issue with. It's better then nothing how I see it.

All you need is the unit. It already has a 30pin connector on one end. Plug and play literally

Also, are these things car model specific ??? Im assuming any with a 30pin connector would work. But I also see some other models on Amazon that say "For Audi Mercedes Bmw vehicles" etc

Any 30 pin, a lot of other car companies did what Mercedes did. I don't personally have it (yet) but my friend does and it's pretty good.

The ones I have seen come with a 30-pin x another pin connector with a 1/8" male aux connector. I only have the 1/8" aux. I am unsure if just the 1/8" portion will work. I was going to try it before buying a male 30-pin x 1/8".

That I am not sure. I guess Mercedes probably changed the set up along the way. I currently have a older gen Ipod connected to the factory 30-pin cable

I have no supplied cable in my glove box. My car is a 2009 with basic Audio20 so all the ipod integration was an afterthought in my car. Later models came with the ipod cable already in there. Mine has nothing but a female 1/8" aux jack. I am pretty sure I have to buy that 30-pin to 1/8" but it is only a few $$ so no big deal.

The forward (skip) / rewind (replay) controls work depending on the app you use to stream music. So does track information, artist. song, playlist, etc etc. Sound quality will vary depending on the streaming source.
A reminder.. read your owner' manual. The following is from a C300 2011 manual. The sound was low and poor until I performed the following steps to "Boost" the sound, which solved the problem/
COMAND in your vehicle may differ. May or may not apply.
Increasing the volume using COMAND
It may be the case that a device which is connected as an external audio source seems quieter or louder in the vehicle, or that the usual maximum volume cannot be achieved. The volume of some devices can be set
separately. In this case, start at a medium volume and then raise it slowly. This enables you to hear if the system can play the music without distortion even at high volumes.
Select Volume in the AUX display by turning the COMAND controller and press to confirm.
A menu appears. The dot indicates the current setting.
Select Standard or Boost and press to confirm.
Standard: the volume of the external audio source is adjusted to a standard value.
Boost: the volume of the external audio source is raised by approximately 10 dB.
