Hello there folks,

I have a 2010 C300 4matic. She is at 87k and the last 20k miles, I have been hearing this whizzing sound that increases with the speed of the car coming from nesr the engine, which I am sure of it is coming from the transmission. She also has been shifting a bit harder than normal. Oh and I noticed the transmission is also leaking very slowly when i changed my oil last week.

So with all that being said, transmission is probably on its way out, but I want to fight as long as I can to have her see more days.

So the question is, is there absolutely noway to check the level of the fluid? I watched some videos of people locating a closed off tube with a red lock pin and check the level with an aftermarket dip stick and all.. well, i dont have that closdd tube with a red lock pin.

Could someone guide me in the right direction so i can check the fluid level and e quality of the fluid and add more to level it off?

Thanks guys!

You can't check with a dipstick. There is no tube from the engine bay to the transmission. Some older cars came with a tube but no dipstick. That had to be purchased. On the newer cars, there is a hollow tube that is mounted vertically directly above the drain inside the transmission from the bottom. Fluid is pumped up through the drain after removing the plug. The level is determined by the height of the inner tube. Need some special apparatus. Car has to be level and fluid at appropriate temperature. There is a stickey with lots of information.

The sound you're hearing could also be a worn wheel bearing

If your service intervals are like my 2011, the transmission fluid should be changed every 40K miles. Has that been done?

Here's some information on tranny fluid change http://www.pelicanparts.com/techarti...eplacement.htm

Where?
Which specific location is it leaking from?
And is it leaking or do you just see oil residue in that particular location?
