I'm planning on installing the roof rack just to give the car a different look, any idea on which one would be a good option, OEM or after market, which after market? I also want to go easy on my wallet.
If you're going to add one I would go OEM which will fit and look better. I have a roof rack system for my Land Rover, where I sometimes do carry stuff but it creates drag and wind noise so I leave most of it off when I'm not using it. If you're not going to use it and are just looking to change the look of the car then I would find something else to do to change the look. JMO.
You can probably find an OEM rack like this one, used, for relatively cheap locally perhaps. I picked mine up in good condition for 200 bucks CAD. I added the Thule fairing for another 100, but it needed a bit of modification to fit the OEM racks since they're obviously meant for Thule brand racks
I like the OEM racks because aside from the hard mounting points, they stay a few mm above the surface of the car so they don't scratch anything up. They're also very easy to install/remove and lock
Someone at my work told me about the wind noise and definitely that bothers him, he drives a VW GTO.
Something to think about since I just wanted it for looks.
There is definitely wind noise. I don't run with them for highway driving unless needed because the noise is awful in comparison to no racks, with or without the fairing.
