INJECTOR CLEANER - use or not use

Hi to all!

My W204 2008 C220 CDI as come to 250000 Km! That is 155 342 miles!

Great car, no problems till now.

Maybe is just my mine but in the few months the fuel mileage as been droping a little.

Maybe i am confusing, but when i bought the car i could get 7-7.5 lts/100km (40 mpg) and now even with a good drive i get always a solid 8-8.3lts/100km (34 mpg).

Nothing as changed. Maintenace done as schedule.

Never used a injector cleaner. Drive on highways most of the time.

So, what i want to ask is: injector cleaners do the job? Or no bother using it?

CDI, yes, wouldn't hurt. Use one with a high concentration of PEA (just like for direct injection gas cars).

Redline SI1 is a good one for use on any diesel or direct injected gas engine. Just make sure you do an oil change within a few thousand km of doing this.

I wouldn't use additives for anything, they don't work and studies have shown they are harmful (ones added to fuel tank). Only real way is use an injector cleaner system that isolates the cleaner to just the engine. But not sure if they do that on diesels. They can also be taken out n cleaned. Is there less power?

USA gasoline is poor quality by spec and is spotty in terms of what you get at the pump. Additives, like Techron and Gumout Regane with PEA are a must.

I just got a 500 V8 with 60k and 11 year old air filters. After using some 2-cycle oil, Marvel Mystery Oil and then half-quart of Techron, it runs like a beast compared to the wheezy slug it was a week ago.

Lubrizol Power Zol is a state ofthe art product, the AMSoil and also Redline FI cleaners are well know to work.

Lubrizol makes many of oil additive packs for the companies we love.

I wouldn't recommend using any additives unless they are MB-Approved and really needed. They usually do more harm than any good.

Also apart from the fuel consumption, you should take a look at your average speed. For example, you may get 7.7l/100km with 25km/h and it will be totally normal to get 8.0-8.5l/100km with 22-23km/h average speed. If your daily driving and traffic changed, then it would be normal for your fuel consumption to change too.

Basically you're cleaning the intake or other portions of the engine. Where is all that dirty stuff going? Straight out the exhaust but before it goes through the exhaust it must pass through the very expensive cat converter.

Here in Portugal we have some good diesel (with aditives and without aditives).

Just wanted an opinion about using something to make some mantenance to injector, because of the mileage.

I keeps statistics of every refill just to keep. Its always 8/8.3 lts/100 km (34 mpg).
I just have an idea that the car had a better mpg...

Will not use injectors cleaners. Will for now refill a full tank of the best diesel and check the mpg after..

My 2013 S204 C250 CDI 4Matic has 240k kms (149k miles) and getting 5,4 l/100km (52 mpg) on a steady 110 km/h (68 mph) on motorway. Your C220 CDI with no 4Matic should be getting a lot better mpg.

BTW, since diesel in Greece is not that good I add once a month (about every 4-5 full refills) this diesel additive.

His fuel consumption is for driving in a city, not on a motorway.

Your joking yes ,, i had diesel engines out the car and repaired,, thats before you had your first dyper fitted .. Its comon for the diesel engine to choke itself on diesel left overs if not given a good burst from tme to time. And Mercedes engines are no differance to any others ..

Please do explain the combustion process of diesel engines and how EGRs work then.

only after 2008 came the OM651 engine so maybe that is one of the reasons?
my C250 CDI averages 6.2L/100km but it has a "powerboost" with chip tuning and exhaust.

i don't get why people by a diesel for driving in the city though. diesels are build to run long times on the same RPM

Well, most of my trips are on highways. At least 35 km per day.

My engine is the 646.811 with the staggered setup 18" wheels.

I just think its a high consumption for a C220.

I am been more carefull at driving, and the mileage i get so far is 7.5 Ltd / 100km...
