2ND CATS DELETE + X PIPE

Im getting my 2.25" magnaflow x pipe installed tomorrow and i was wondering if i wanted my car to be louder after that should i be doing a 2nd cats delete. How much would the 2nd cats delete cost and is it worth it. Would i be getting any error messages if i ran the x pipe as well as 2nd cats delete?

Do this. Remove the large resonator (where the x-pipe is in the picture) and leave the secondary cats/resonators alone. Makes it louder, sounds good, no highway drone

My story, went to the shop, installed my own xpipe 100$, drove one day, i barely heard any difference with xpipe, came back to the shop second day and deleted second cats 100$.. if you do everything at once it should be maximum 150$. Less then 30 min job. No errors. Sounds much more better then just an xpipe. Cold starts will be loud for like first 10 seconds then it calms down. No drone also.

Should've done it this way.

Xpipe alone hardly did anything.

Isn't deleted the 2ndary cats completely illegal for passing emissions? I passed with the muffler delete from a sketchy shop that admitted it wasn't legal but "liked the sound" :p

you really cant get a direct answer on this because apparently...

EVERY W204 Sounds different. Even if you have same car. Marko's for example, was just X-pipe, just like Funk's, and they both made a big difference.

Others, not so much. Could be US/CA market? OBVIOUSLY engine size will matter but that is a given.

No matter what, it seems that no one can expect the exact same result with 2 comparable w204's.

The "secondary cats" are just resonators. They are not catalytic converters and do not affect emissions. Now, if you had to pass some kind of state safety inspection and they saw/heard there were no mufflers, that would be a different story.

IF they saw? LMAO they check everything here in MA, I don't know where your from but if they don't actually thorough check your car top to bottom before issuing you a new sticker, then you sir are very lucky. Depending on where I go to get my inspection, some places would have failed me for my muffler delete.

I've gone to different inspection stations in MA, they never lyfted my car.. as long as i dont have check engine light or any other problems. 99% of inspectors dont even know that mercedes has 2 cats lol but muffler delete, they can see that without lyfting it

I guess I am lucky then. Here in Wisconsin all we have is emissions testing and that is only every couple years. Takes about 5 minutes. And that is only in certain higher pollution areas in the southeast portion of the state. If you don't have to have the emission test you can just pay online and your sticker shows up a few days later. Pretty simple actually.

X Pipe without 2nd cats delete is IMO not worth it as it is only around 10-15% louder while 2nd cat is at least 50% louder.

I don't know about MA inspections but that sounds pretty ridiculous, unless the 2nd cats are in the section where the resonator is an aftermarket exhaust would get rid of them? If true then you can't do any "performance" related mods..

Yeah it all depends. Replacing the resonator with an x-pipe and deleting the secondary cats BUT leaving the stock mufflers will make the exhaust meaner and not produce any drone. If you have the above and replace the stock mufflers with straight-through mufflers, there will be highway drone.

That's what I thought too until I had mine removed, but they are in fact catalytic converters. They are passive and have no sensors attached to them, but they have a ceramic catalytic substrate inside that assists in further converting emissions.

If the stock mufflers are removed or replaced with straight-through mufflers, the sound won't be much louder.

I had just an x-pipe and Magnaflow straight-through mufflers for a while. When I deleted the secondary cats it made the exhaust note more screamy/raspy on the higher end. I absolutely love it.

Installing mods to make your car noisier is fortunately verboten where I live. People who do it are slapped with a defect notice which can not be removed until the car is inspected. So those people who install what we call fart cans just to make people assume that they have also purchased penile enlargers are quickly disillusioned and returned their cars to normal. Getting your car back on the road is a long and involved process. So long and costly in fact, people just abandon their rides and purchase a new one

+1

I had highway drone with just an x-pipe in place of the resonator and straight-through Magnaflow mufflers.

Went back to stock mufflers and deleted the "2nd cats" and I'm enjoying a no-drone exhaust with a mild but louder than stock sound.

where I’m from near Toronto all the shops charge $700 or more for a res delete and x pipe with a muffler delete.
