19" AMG Alloy wheels with Summer tires

I would like to purchase a 2015 C300 4MATIC with 19" AMG Alloy wheels with Summer high performance Tires. I live in Chicago and worried about the snow in the winter.
1- Can I change the tires to all-weather tires or is it not recommended for this wheel to have that?!

2- Do I need to change the wheels and tires to have all weather tires.

3- How will the summer high performance wheels work in the winter (snow for long time on the ground).

Please help me!!

You don't have to change the wheels to use all weather tires. The tires are the high performance part of the equation not the wheels.

The summer tires will probably not work well for the type of winters you get in Chicago. In Kentucky we just run all season tires since we don't usually get that much snow.

The problem with running a 19" wheel in the winter is that there is very little sidewall on the tire and the chance of hitting an unseen pothole and bending a rim is greater when there is snow on the roads (since you can't see the potholes). Not sure what snow tires are available in the 19" size either. A lot of people find an extra set of wheels and just put the snow tires on those so they don't have to hassle with mounting/remounting the tires.

I know there are snow tires to put on the 19' amg wheels. Right now it has the Perillie 255/35 R19 summer tires. Would i be able to put all weather tires on these wheels instead of the summer tires?
I guess beside the pot holes, will it effect performance if i put all weather instead of switching summer and winter?

I dont know if they even have all weather on these wheels. I will look i am so confused!!!

I'm not sure what you are confused about...You can install summer/winter/all-weather tires on any wheel as long as it is available in a compatible size.

Would not recommend summer tires in any amount of snow. All-weathers aren't too good in the dry (grip-wise when compared to summer) and aren't too good when there is a lot of snow.

Sorry, what I meant is will the all weather tires ideal for 19" AMG wheels? or is it better to change the wheels as well?

The dealer said since it came with the car and to be able to certify it; part of the certification process; they cant put any other tires and only summer tires? I chatted with MB directly and gave them the VIN# and they said they dont recommend the all weather tires and only summer and winter tires. It simply wasn't designed for it. Tires are tested for approval with our vehicles to ensure optimal performance taking into consideration vehicle handling and ride quality.

Was wondering if it just the policy or it has something to do with performance and safety and if it will hurt the car? Is all weather tires for the 19" AMG safe and will not effect performance? Or will it have notable performance issues?

I know sometimes Factory only approved items are a stretch but wondering if this is one of these issues or truly something to avoid? I just dont want to buy winter and summer and keep changing them.

The simplest thing to do would be get yourself another set of wheels and mount SNOW TIRES and not all season tires as you will only use them in the winter. Then when it snows your car will feel like a tank and will drive through anything. Then when spring comes you can mount your summer tires on. Much simpler than having one set of wheels and then having to keep changing out the tires on the same wheels.

You might want to go to an 18" wheel or 17" wheel with a taller sidewall for the winter tires as well for the added comfort.

I see. So 19" wheel is really trouble thats why they dont recommend all season tires on them. Smaller wheels should be OK though for this car?

Can i replace the wheels every season or i have to do it at a dealer to balance them?

As long as you don't remove the tires from the wheels then you wouldn't need to rebalance them every time you put them on.

17" steel rims mounted with snow tires for the winter. All season are crap for the winter, all weather are not bad but dedicated winter tires is where it is at.

It is tempting as it is a good deal for 2015 C300 4MATIC loaded with pano, multimedia and navi and AMG sport line and body and wheels for $29.5K. But it has 40K miles.

But the hassle of changing the wheels and added cost of having two sets... I guess i am discouraged and i will just find another one with all season wheels and tires. I wish i can add that on this car and buy it.
Here is the car...

Some dealers will store your wheels for you.

There are a lot of C300s out there. Shouldn't be too hard to find a different one. Or you could always negotiate to have the dealer change to different tires as a condition of you buying the car. Or you could buy it and then change out to all season tires when winter comes if the summer tires are worn out. Or even if they aren't, you could always try and sell them if they are still good.

They replaced the tires part of the certifications. I guess i could sell them and replace to the 17" all weather. Or i will just keep looking.
