I am having a custom alcantara shift boot made to match my seats, steering wheel, and door panels. I have the knob and boot off of the car, but does anyone know a way to split the knob and boot from each other?

I want to do this without scratching the silver portion of the knob, and I can't find anything online other then how to remove the combined unit from the car itself.

 

Nevermind it screws away from the boot counter clockwise.
