in the last month my 2012 C250 twice failed to crank when turning the key. I turned it off and returned the key and it started. What can be the problem?

First thing I would have checked is the battery. Odd issues start showing up in these cars when the battery gets too old. It's not like in older cars where the first symptom is a slow crank.

Other possibilities could be the ESL (hopefully not) or perhaps key fob. Although I haven't heard of the fobs going bad too often.
