2013 C300 4matic Sport Flex Disc vs shaft
I'm hoping someone gets back to me asap. thank you guys so much! Noticed a noise driving to work yesterday, stopped at my local hometown garage that my husband uses for his truck, etc. They heard it, put it on the lift and showed me a worn Flex disc and said they would call for pricing. They called and told me a new shaft would be $500, etc. They also said they had never worked on this car....my question is, would the car have still been able to drive with a broken drive shaft vs. just it being a worn Flex Disc. I researched all night and it appears that this flex disc is a common fail but didn't see many drive shafts "breaking"....before I pay to tow this to a MB shop wondering if you had any advice!!!

I've seen mention of Mercedes using a 'flex disc' in the drivetrain but not clear what/where this is, so look forward to hearing more. Certainly if it's a rubber part that absorbs noise/vibration you can imagine it wearing out just like an engine mount ...

I highly doubt the entire driveshaft is gone. Try and get more information from them, because what they said is not clear at all.

$500 is not bad if using OEM parts as it is not the easiest job.

Yeah, do not push this repair too long. AllData shows it at $430 and 7 hours labor inclusive.
And as @xEryx 's link to Pelican points out:
Like anything rubber, they dry out, crack and will eventually fail. If you let the discs get to the point that it completely fails while the car is in motion, they can cause a tremendous amount of damage.
