Mercedes key fob problem

Hi all, So I started my car with my key and it turned on and I drove to my destination as i was getting out I tried to lock my car, and the key didn't lock the car. I went back into the car and tried turning on the car and it didn't have the engage sound when I put the key into the ignition. I had to call someone to bring my spare and it ended up working. Does anybody know what is wrong with my key fob? It shouldn't be a problem with the car itself but with the key fob since I am able to use the spare...

Maybe the fob was out of battery? Try swapping in a new one.

I changed the battery already and the LED lights up, but no reaction from the car.. I can't seem to find out what is wrong with it.

Key is dead, order a new one. They do die from time to time.

It no longer works. They fail from time to time.

Newer DAS4 keys are about $300, I don't know exactly.

Find a locale programmer that has the tools to program you a new key, a lot of people have those scanners that can get the passwords out of your keys, its about 1500$ for the chinese knock off but it doest the same job as the dealers 10k one. It could be your ignition module, the key words with that module you put the key in so if something is wrong with either of them, it wont work. I would say get a ignition module and a new spare key programmed to that ignition module just to be safe or if you want just start by taking appart your key and ignition module and just cleaning it with alcohol and some compressed air, see if you can find some cracked solder joints but if it failed, likely its one of the chips on the boards which requires changing the whole thing. Start with a nice clean up and see if it does it again and if so like I said, find a local mercedes specialist that can program keys and ignition switches, I would also highly recommend getting an emulator to remove the steering lock because that will fail one day and will leave you stranded, every w204 should have a emulator programmed in it and remove notorious electric steering lock module that fails on all of them and people actually pay 1500$ for the dealer to program a new one and fail 2 years later, do it while it still works because if it fails locked, it will require a lot more work and a grinder.

His other key still works though, so it's not his EIS or ESL.

No I know but if your going to program a new ignition switch or key, I highlt recommend putting an emulator in place because he will be able to program it at the same time.

But like you said, it is most likely the key in this situation if the spare worked, the chips on the board inside fail. I know my local dealer wanted 500$ for a new key and program which is insane, I found a local programmer that did it for 150.

Some keys can be fixed, some can not.

Post some pix of the board inside (front and back) and I'll tell you if I can help.

Moisture and dirt over time will kill them, especially if the buttons have cracks,

I can't open the key.. I can only open the part where you can change the battery. I have the Mercedes key with the triangle panic button. I don't think it has been anywhere near water idk about the dirt though.

That style is infinitely harder to open. One guy who did used an ultrasonic solvent bath. Got it open, but not useable after.

Good luck.
