ignition coil

Ok I replace ignition coil #5 and put it back together. Once I did that, it started smoking. So I used my diagnostic machine; now its stating I need to replace Ignition coil #1. Should I be changing out the spark plugs also? I that's why it started smoking?

what code did you get to cause you to replace coil in first place ? How long did engine run with bad coil ? Smoke would be from oil in the cylinder ( if it was blue smoke) - if you ran engine for long time without spark in one cylinder you could have issues related to that.

How many miles on car - and have plugs ever been changed ?

Instead of replacing coil 5 - I would just switch it with 6 and see if issue moves to 6... then ok to replace the coil ....
