Buying new tires? Try a wider set!

I installed wider tires (255 over 245) on my rear wheels and I noticed my wheels are angled even more than before. I have an 08 C350 with 17s and I went with the wider tires for the look and more grip, but I didn't think it would angle my wheels more than before. I kind of like the look, but can someone explain what happened here?

The old tires made the wheels flush with the body. Not protruding out beyond the body.
Close up of stock width. Notice that 245s do not come past the side skirts. 1st and 2nd images ONLY.

Here are with the 255s installed. Note that the 18in option has 255s stock, so this fits with zero rubbing.

There you have it. I spent $170 on the tires, Federal 595 SS tires. I did not go for the RS-Rs because I have a friend in the same lot with them on his R32 and the tread pattern is too track oriented. I do not track this car :P.
I tried the original contisports but they didn't last, so I then tried Michelin sports(non ss) and didn't like those either. The federals stick and withstand sliding around a corner, unlike the other tires which broke up too easily. Also, in
addition to being high performance tires, they are also very quiet. All I want to do next is go and maybe lower the car, I like how low the C300s are and I hate hitting the windy highway and feeling the wind moving under the car.
Ride quality matters most to me, after all in the end its still a Mercedes. This change increases ride quality
Please comment and tell me what you think. additional glamour shots below ))))

Recommended stock is 245/40-17 rear, 225/45-17 front.
With a 17" inch rim, the rear should therefore run on 255/40-17, as long as that size is available???? With a 255/35-17, the gap between tire and fender would be too big.

Lowering it definitely is what needs to be done. It does seem lifted hahahah. $170 for brand new tires, stay under $200 if you can do it.. I bought new from a tire retailer in California. These are indeed new and I can provide you with the information on my order if you word. You can buy from tire websites if eBay isn't an option for you. PM me!
