Tire Recommendations

last year I bought a 2014 C300 W204 4Matic Sport & it’s time to replace the rear tires. Currently has the ContiProContact & I’m looking for something better. I have been researching & came across the Extreme Contact DWS06. Question for the board, are these good tires, and if not, which ones would you recommend?

We've got a set of the DWS 06 tires on 17" wheels and just purchased the Michelin Pilot A/S3+ tires last week, 18" size. I haven't spent much time with these new Michelins, but it's been a huge success story for them. They balance up with virtually no weight. To me, that's a sign of a very high quality tire in terms of uniformity that few will match.

The DWS 06 has a very high sense of directionality on our car...not sure I'm crazy about that. However, this tire also has a good following.

Doesn't it snow in Michigan? Do you need winter tires?

Yes it snows quite a bit, so any recommendation must be an all season tire. Last winter I essentially parked the car for the season as I have another vehicle.

So you will NOT be driving the MBz during the winter?

No, I want to drive it some during the winter, it’s just not an everyday vehicle.

There is a new class of tire emerging referred to as "all weather". Vredestein, Nokian, Toyo and one other (??) are offering them at this time. They are supposed to provide snow/ice performance close to that of a dedicated winter tire meaning performance far above your basic all-season tire.

The DWS06 handles winter well. Really well with 4matic.

A summer tire that I have and love. Firestone Firehawk Indy 500. Inexpensive and reviews as good as Michelin on Tire Rack.

I have been looking at tires too if I pull the trigger on a 2013 C300 Sport with the AMG Staggered setup, from my short list is the DWS, the Michelin, and the General GMAX AS-05, right now I WOUld be leaning towrds the General as I have read alot of good reviews, even in snow.

Check out Tire Rack, they have a video if you scroll down and a written review. Discount Tire Direct has them a little cheaper, $521.84 for the set

I scheduled an appointment with MB to replace my current Contiprocontacts with DWS06. They needed changing anyways and with MB offering $75 off 2 or $150 off 4 I decided to buy through them. Ends up $830 out the door for the set, 2 x 225/40-18 and 2 x 255/35-18. Tirerack wanted $700 shipped for the set but that's not including mount/balance/install/hassle, etc.,
