P0335 Code Returns despite sensor replacement

Car Model: C180 W204
Issue: Sporadic Check engine light
Code: 0335 Crankshaft Sensor

CEL lit up and the Crankshaft sensor was replaced accordingly. The next day the car was brought home. Starded up fine, but after a few minutes of driving CEL lit up again and car stalled.

Right now the car is stuck at the shop for diagnostics. Same case, on a fresh start (cold) CEL is off but as it warms up CEL lights up again.

Shop is saying that the ecu is broken...

Have any of you had experience on this? Asking the shop to look at other parts of the car such as fly wheel but they're really adamant on the ecu.

I am thinking this will be my issue as well. For the cost of the ECM and all the diagnosis and if it is the issue I may still be further ahead to buy one that is VIN programmed and install it myself. It’s a gamble but it may save me money or change nothing at all. Anyone found a reputable company for ECM’s?

Is this an indy shop or an MB dealer service department?
