ML 250 bluetec

Level on coolant

I’ve had notification that my coolant need topping up ml 250. On checking, only an inch from top missing. I filled it up. Was I correct?
Does it not need room for expention when hot?

I think these tanks are supposed to be filled all the way to the neck, not to the mid-point on the reservoir.
