Electronic Steering lock
Hello Everyone.
Please can some advise as to why the Electronic steering lock fails on the W204 Mercedes Benz?
i have a Mercedes Benz W204, year 2011. The after market motor warranty claims the fault to be general wear and tear. Please can someone advise.
Regards,
Yatish L.

Yatish,
A Search will yield many articles on this problem including photos of a failed ESL motor with its small carbon brushes having been deteriorated into a pile of black dust. My $3,000 + aftermarket Extended Warranty denied my ESL claim (2009 C300 4Matic) for the same "wear and tear" reason and they are basically correct. My warranty seemed to exclude 'electric motors"..they would cover the windshield wiper linkage, not the motor or the window regulator, not the motor.
I cancelled the warranty on the spot and got my pro rated cost back.

Ideally, the motor failed due to internal wear and tear and not general wear and tear such as, brake pads, tyres, oils, fuel, etc. the motor warranty should ideally cover the charge for the repair.

One reason to buy the MB ELW.
I can confirm this is covered as I have had this replaced.

You have a kind Dealer..I tried 2 MB Dealers and 3 Indy shops and they all told me to pound sand re: my non-MB extended warranty covering the ESL failure.

The MB dealers have nothing to do with it, it's what is and is not covered as per the T&Cs.
