Timing chain issue.
Hi all.
good day to u. As title mention i had timing chain problem. I dont know its just tensionr or timing chain or cam adjuater. But my car is making rattle sound for few seconds and it took a while to start.
thanks to u guys i reckon that its the notorious timing chain issue on most of w204.
to repair and replace mb prices are rocket high and one mb cam adjuster will cost me 800 quick.
from the bright side there are so called timing chain kit on the both ebay and amazon. My question is anyone of u tried that before? if yes pls share ur thought.
thanks in advance

Hello! finally someone!
pardon my rudeness. My ride is W204. M271 engine with 115,800 kms at clock.
Funny that i did not get a check engine light and one strange thing is. Its not rattle on cold start. That 2 or 3 second rattle sound came on warm start.
is that still timing chain issue? i ordered the parts already. Its on their way. I guess i will change it anyway to prevent the future fault.

My C180 has 112000km and went in to the dealer for a timing chain and camshaft repair. Dealer wanted a whopping $5500 USD for the repair and had no mercedes for christmas! Looking to get a timing chain kit+camshaft and get it done by an independent dealer. any updates on your timing chain kit? I bought a kit and camshaft off ebay

W204 with M271 CGI engine is usually the intake camshaft adjuster that breaks internally. I always replace both the intake and the exhaust along with a new chain tensioner and tensioner cap.

The timing chain tensioner can fail, resulting in a rattle on warm start. This is a 2 hour job by itself, might be worthwhile as the first thing to try. Much cheaper than replacing all the timing components.

My Timing chain tensioner failed just causing a rattle sometimes, I figured I'd get a CEL too but never did until the chain come off. Initially my mechanic thought it would have valve damage and it would be cheaper to throw a used engine in but a leakdown test confirmed the valves are in good shape so they're repairing my current engine. Just sharing since apparently a CEL isn't always shown for the issue.
