2008 C300 91k - no mufflers

Ok, went to go look at a 2008 C300 manual trans last night. Car has 91k on the clock. The previous owner removed the mufflers. Drove the thing around a bit - normal city driving - and the drone coming from the rear was damn near unbearable. I've never owned a Benz before so is having a pair of mufflers installed on this vehicle a big deal?

I also noticed that the ESP system wasn't working. Is this an easy fix?

The dealer come down to $6500 from $6900.

Thanks

Is having mufflers on a big deal? I wouldn't do it for the same reason you mention-the drone. Apparently previous owner didn't have a problem with the sound or was deaf. Surprised the dealer did not put mufflers back on. I would think not having them would reduce the pool of potential buyers. Plus, it wouldn't be that difficult for the to but mufflers back on. You could maybe negotiate that, if that is all the previous owner did to the car.

As for the ESP. that depends what the issue is. Could be a number of things. Best to have the code(s) read and research what they mean. I would want the dealer to fix that as it is a safety issue.

From your brief description I would keep looking, although a manual transmission C300 is not that common.

Loud noises = typically irresponsible person
Not always but for a c300 a muffler delete signs such.

Car has probably been beat on

It's a manual trans so it was probably living a hard life. No mufflers is a sign of that and ESP could be a reasonable fix or cost more than the car is worth.

Heck of a gamble, get a PPI done at a respectable shop you know or MB dealer, costs a couple hundred but could save you thousands if you buy it.

Walk away... You have no idea what else they messed with. Removing the mufflers completely is not normal.

If you feel compelled, get it fully checked out by a reputable mechanic.

Hi, I’m wondering if you could tell me more about your exhaust? Is it fairly snappy, or more of a low growl? I’ve been toying with the idea of adding magnaflow and I’d appreciate a first hand perspective. I own a 2010 C300. Thank you.

i did a 2nd cat delete and resonator delete and put in a xpipe in place of the resonatoe and replaced stock mufflers with magnaflow mufflers. I love the sound its a deep low growl. I get a little drone on the highway that might be to much for some people so if thats the case with you dont delete the secondary cats.
