Pre-purchase 204 check list??
Long time lurker, first time poster. Is there a post/sticky somewhere with a list of things to look for
OR Common problems at certain mileages? I know certain models are prone to different things.
Had a 2005 CDI, and was a absolute beast and my 2008 CDI was riddled with problems.
I am looking to purchase two 2012-2015 W204's (less than 80K) in the next few weeks, but want to make sure I cover all my bases.
I always purchase cars with detailed dealer maintenance records, but I want to make sure problem areas
were covered. I do a pre purchase at a local MB dealer, but don't want to pay for it until I can rule out potential problems that were not serviced before this step.
Thanks in advance,
Jack

Sorry, I should have been more clear. Fairly certain NOT another CDI. Unless I can be convinced otherwise.
Obviously MPG is near and dear to my heart, so I was looking at gas: I would love another diesel, but I just don't think
the current MPG numbers are that much better with all the EPA restrictions. My 2005 CDI was 40 highway which was incredible.. However my 2008 CDI was 31 highway at best.
So I looking at either of these.
1.6–1.8 L M271
OR
2.5–3.5 L M272 V6
Which everyone is the most reliable and has the least inherent problems. I really don't care which model 250, 350, luxury. Certainly no M156 AMG V8
They are exceptional, but not practical for my situation.
Thanks,
Jack

I'm very happy with the M272 in my C300 4MATIC.

Yep , top is a C220 CDI and bottom is my own C250 CDI on a much shorter and lower average speed drive .
C250 CDI has a very useful 500 Nm of torque , the best of both worlds...
