My C250 just broke
So I’ve been hearing some rattling noice for a few month now it comes and goes. This morning I drove to work and out of nowhere the car just turned off, long story short, I had it towed to a shop and the timing chain snapped, good thing is the shop called my extended warranty place and they said I’m getting a new engine with 45k miles on it.
Car is a 2012 C250 with 90k

Glad you have a warranty. This engine is already susceptible, but can you please confirm that you were changing the oil and filter on time.
I am really shocked by Mercedes Benz's quality here! An engine with 90k miles snaps its chain. What kind of crap is this?! Glad I stayed away from the M271 engine, but MB should be ashamed of themselves regarding this engine. What a joke!

I would look into an engine swap try and get a C300 engine there's less issues. Timing chains are crazy expensive to fix and it will probably happen again

So I’m getting a new engine with 45k on it.the cost is 8000$ For Parts and labor and the warranty place will pay 4500$
and i have to cover the rest.
i called the the shop and gave them the green light to fix it.
you guys think this was the right call?

your in a ****ty position with money coming out of your pocket see if you can do an engine swap to something else. I cant wait for my Benz engine to hit the ****ter to swap something with more power in there.my regret is when my truck timing chain went i didn't just throw in another 3k and get a V8 in there.
usual engine swaps are 5k it might be cheaper option.
I would look at other options, I just don't like the C250 engine theres lots of issues if you don't stay on top of maintenance.
defiantly take your time on making a decision (if you can)

they have some pretty expensive issue as well, but the power is so much more noticeable than the c250 and c300's. reliability wise the 2012 C300 seems to be the sweet spot, I'm glad i paid up and got mine.

its just crazy expensive 8k even with the 4000k I have to pay.
Atleast I’m getting a 1800$ bonus from work soon. Figured 2200$ that’s what I have to pay.

hopefully this one lasts more than 90,000 miles.pull the chain off your old one to see if you can tell what caused it.

Same thing happened to my C250 at 87k. I was driving home from a night with friends at about 12AM and the car died. Chain snapped because the tensioner went bad.
Somehow the engine wasn't damaged but I still had to pay out of pocket to have all the timing components replaced as my warranty was expired.
