Hi, I have a 2010 C300 with a nice vented engine block. I'm swapping in a new (used) engine tomorrow. I can not find this info anywhere. What I really need to know is do I pull the old motor out up and out or drop the front sub frame ? Do I pull engine and trans as one, or just pull the engine ? I will post the project when I'm done, hopefully I take enough pics. Bare with me I'm far from a professional. But I am determined lol

Reason: Wrong year car

A rule of thumb is when tackling a big project - break it up in smaller/easier to handle tasks whenever possible.
If you do plans on swapping it, I would highly recommend just taking the whole drivetrain ( Engine and transmission) out with the subframe. Once those are out of the car, it will really easy to work on. If its 4matic, you have no choice but to do it that way.
It's not 4 matic. I bought the car that way so I have no idea how the motor blew. Thanks for the info about dropping engine and trans together out the bottom. That's the angle of attack I will take. I'll try and update yall as it goes. I plan to have this done by Friday lol. Fingers crossed

Good luck, it shouldn't be too hard and since its not 4matic, that will make the job 10x easier. Disconnect fuel line, main harness, few hoses, subframe ,trans flex plate and it slides out.

Unfortunately, I was told I need a lift to remove the motor from the bottom, I guess it's to difficult to reinstall the sub frame, not to mention lifting the car high enough. So I guess I'm gonna try to remove the front end, radiator core support, bumper and what not. I hope to have enough room to lift slightly and pull straight out. Guess we shall see lol
90 degrees in Miami, boy i picked wrong time of year to do this.....
so far so good, looks like fuel lines motor mounts and flex plate to go. Would be much futher if not for this dam heat.
Also, I just found out this is a 2010. I tried to edit the thread title but seems it won't change. Maybe a moderator can change it ??? I talked to the place I bought the motor from and they said 2008 to 2010 are the same motor and 2011 the heads were changed. So, hopefully, I should still be ok.

Following. Nice work. Are swapping transmission too? Any tips for someone who wants to attempt this in the future? pitsfalls? what was the hardest part?

I'm gonna reuse the transmission, I've not tested it so fingers crossed. I'm not a Mechanic, just a hobbyist at best, I've used my phone a friend option more than once lol it seems this car is fairly contained to a couple wire harness, ecu and one u unplug from the trans under the car on passenger side. I also left the motor mounts on the engine, just 2 bolts on each one. I left the o2 sensors 9n the exhaust and just unplugged them, flex plate is pretty straight forward. And I left the ac and power steering pump on the car. Believe me when I say, if I can do it, anyone with determination can do it.
Geez, I'm in awe as an "amateur" DIYer ! Can you comment on what heeded to be done from below/above, like motor mounts, exhaust, et. al. Thanks and keep cool.

Thank you for the vote of confidence. T torx and E Torx I bought both set from harbor freight fairly cheap, around $10 each if I remember. The one torx that didn't come in the set u need is T60 for the flex disc. I unbolted the exhaust right where the header meets the exhaust pipe near the O2 sensors, just 2 bolts per side and there is a small cross member that holds the 2 pipes, unbolt that too. U will need a cherry picker. I also had the car up on 4 of the 3 ton Jack stands placed on the 4 lift points of the car. Like I said b4, I left the motor mounts on the engine cuz they are really hard to get to in the car, we will see how it goes in tho lol. O, one thing I did miss is a hose on the firewall that goes down behind and under the throttle body, I never knew it was there until I heard it snap. That's about all I can think of at the moment. I hope to have it in tomorrow, maybe fire it up, although that's probably wishful thinking lol

She's Alive !!
3 am and I finally got her fired up. I got a hand full of codes that I'll have to sort through. There a good miss fire going on, got code for 4 , 2 , 1 cylinder miss. I swapped out coil packs and that helped a little bit. But hey, its 3 am, it starts and moves, I'll chase the bugs tomorrow, I mean later today, boy am I tied lol. Thanks for all the encouragement and helpful info. I got bunch of pics I'll try and put up too.
You're a sick man, very sick !! Well done and in record time. What's the source of the replacement motor BTW ?
Thanks man. $500 soursed from a local junkyard here in Miami. And to think, I just came here from Michigan to visit my son, pick up a cheap Benz, chil with my son and enjoy my vacation lmao
Well, I swapped all the coil pack, brand new battery, new plugs, new MAF, and I still have these codes. I've gotten the car to run better, but it has a pronounced miss. Well I'm driving it back home to Michigan tonight. Any ideas on what else to check ?
Maybe of some help...multiple CEL codes like yours with misfires. Any chance the gas is contaminated, water ? Bon Voyage !!
CCM
Well, we made it to Michigan in about 26 hrs, no issues what so ever, except the engine mis of course. Ii do not think it was contaminated fuel. I run the highest octane and burned 4 full tanks of fuel. I also added various fuel additives to each tank, all to no avail. I'm just going to take it to a local German repair shop by my home and get a diagnosis. I will be sure to update.
I'm having trouble uploading all the pics so I'll do this in multiple posts I guess.
First here is a good link for disconnecting the flex disc. Its pretty much how I do it with a small exception. There is a mount bracket I leave on and use as a brace for the 18 mm box end wrench and makes breaking the bolts loose much easier. The first pic u can see the mount bracket still in place. The second pic I circled the bolts to leave in the trans cross member. No need to remove these unless u want to replace the bushing.
