If the serpentine belt is like my C300 this article might help..note the section where it describes the markings that show if the tensioner is in spec. With the belt off you can usually tell if the pulley is worn/rough. Obvious noise on running with belt is usually evident but only when pulley bearing is really shot.

2008 C350-Sport-AMG-Active Agility Pack(Not reliable) +Izuzu KB6 3L(It seems Reliable)+Mazda
After removing them I found thst the smallest pulley(C350) I could only hear noise next to my ear. I opened it up and it was dry(I would say the weak point here, not well manufactured). The larger slave pulley was perfect very good quality. The tentioner pully was good no bearing problems.
I however replaced all 3 with the belt while at it.
