Mechanical key cut for 2014 C250.

Hello all,

I need to find out if there is a place I can take a blank mechanical key for my son's 2014 C250. I bought the car from a dealer and it looks like they reprogrammed the key fob from another car Mercedes and I did not check if the mechanical key would work or not, since the key fob worked, I assumed the mechanical key would as well; lesson learned, we all know what happens when you ***-u-me!!

So, I got a blank mechanical key and will need to cut it, just in case the key fob runs out of battery and would need to get in the car; also, in case the car is valet.

I called a couple of MB dealers and they charge $400 to 'order' the mechanical key; they do not cut blank keys.

Does anyone know if there is such a place to have a blank key cut?

Thanks,
PJ

You can probably find a local locksmith who can cut the key for you. Try one that has been in business for 20+ years. Dealers do NOT have the equipment to cut keys.

Hi Steveb977,

Thanks for your reply, but I have asked a few locksmith and even one recommended by the MB garage where they have worked on the car; and everyone is saying the dealer would be only one that do that.

I think I will leave as is, the blank key just cost me $5 in Ebay.

Maybe I just trade it for another newer car, after checking the mechanical key matches it.

Regards,

$400 is for the remote and the key. I paid $155 (wholesale) for the remote and the key would have been another $60. I bought the $5 blank on Ebay and a $250 laser key cutter that I've used half a dozen times, so about $40 to cut the key and dropping, with each new key I cut.

Hi Atikovi,

Thanks for the information. I think I will leave it like this for now, and hoping there is no need for me to have to use the mechanical key down the road.

It looks like a cool setup you have with the laser key cutter.

Thanks,
