Rear shock replacment
Hello all,
First post here.
Looking to replace my rear shock and want to see do I have different part number as my car have advanced agility control? ( whatever you call it? Mine have paddle shift and "sport" button on my dash.)
Or they share the same shock with other 204's?
Thank you

If you want to get an exact OE replacement, give your VIN to any Mercedes parts counter and they'll tell you what came with your car. There are several different possibilities.
Aftermarket is far simpler as they typically make just one or two part numbers that cover a wide range of W204 variants. BTW, the so-called "agility control" is just a lot of marketing nonsense describing the internal valving. The shocks do not "read the road surface" any more or any differently than any other shocks' valving system.
My car has Koni FSDs which I think are great, but like motor oil and tires, everyone has their favorite and there's no easy or objective way to know if one shock is any better than another.

After some reach online, this is what I need. See the bottom on rear shock there is T-shape where I can plug in a electric plug.

Yes, I see that now in the manual ... Dynamic Handling Package ... with two settings "Sport" and off (for "Comfort"), that change the shock valving, steering, transmission behavior, etc. Would love to try a car with this setup and see the difference.
Wonder if they offered in 2014? It's not mentioned in the sales brochure, just the so-called "Agility Control" which is described as "... the ... suspension reads the road through the vertical movement of each wheel, then instantly adapts the shock absorbers to offer an ideal mix of control ..." That's what sounds to me like an attempt to make ordinary shock valving sound like something more sophisticated than it really is.

This is the write-up on the Monroe (MB OEM) website for the shocks that are standard on the W204.

Tom, they do have fancy words for our regular suspension but yeah everything said above is correct. Some people with the package however complained that the ride (probably in sport) was too stiff, as in, stiffer than our stock sport suspension.

Hello,
Life has been really busy, my rear shock is really bad now. Does anyone know where I can pair of those shock for less then $600? Or can I run a normal shock? I don't really care being having the " sport button" anyway. Paddle shift is slow, was ok back in 2010 but now is just unacceptable.
Thanks

I have the feeling if you put in a normal shock, you going to loose the comfort ride, and the ride you get will be somewhere in between. I driven in a W204 without that package and it feels stiffer(Like most other cars), but not as stiff as sport mode.
The problem I had with this suspention is it relax the shocks at slow speed, and then you have a real problem driving on a bad corregated road at say 20Km/h, it feels theres no shocks in the car, the system cannot deal with this situation. They replaced a control box after I complained, but it made no difference.
My conclusion was that these shocks lasted around 15000Km, then deterioarate to about 75% operation but still dont leak. THey refused to replace these Monroe shocks due to not leaking. These days I never drive such roads so it does not matter anymore.
You can prove this behaviour going very slow over a speed bump(Sloppy), chose one that wont take out your exhaust. Then drive a bit faster, the shocks stiffen quickly(A normal function over and above the choice between Sport & Comfort mode) a bit and then you pass over the bump without feeling theres no shocks(Perfect feeling), but this is ONE bump, not a coregated gravel road.

My car is 2010 with close to 92000 miles. On very good day it might worth $7000, I'm not going to spend $1300 on a pair rear shock. Im going unplug the electric connector on my shock and drive around, just check is it going throw some wired code, if not I'm getting a pair normal shock.
See your car is way newer then mine. I would not worry much,

Unplugging the shock
Does anyone have a solution, did unplugging the shock work or did it throw up lights and errors on the dash?
My rear shock the bushings are gone and I don't want to be buying 2 new shocks.
Is it possible to replace the bushings on these active shocks?
