W204 transmission

Hey guys I don’t know if anyone Else has had the same problem but my Mercedes Benz c300 w204 transmission is stuttering badly but it only happens when the engine becomes warm. For example I turn it on perfect I drive and the gears are smooth but once the car itself becomes warm and I drive, when it’s supposed to shift it shakes badly what can I do?

How is your fluid? Mileage on car? Service history? Shakes in every gear/every shift or only certain ones? Need more info here.

MB C CLASS 2008 W204 220 CDI AUTO GEARBOX - 1st and 2nd shift problem with shake and noise.
When i start the car for the first 15 minutes everything goes right. After the car arrives the optimal temperature, it will start the shake and noise after the shifting to 1st and 2nd gear. After that with a constant drive of 60km/h and above it will go very right and without a problem.
Can anyone help me, someone who has got this problem with his car.
I have the same problem as the post creator. I have too much time not changing the gear oil but i need to know if it is about that this problem, or it may have something else.

Thank you

Just like the guy in the post above you asked, what's the mileage of the car and when is the last time it got a transmission fluid change?

The mileage is 197000km and the transmission fluid has been changed maybe a long time ago, from the old owner of the car.

I wanted to know if that would be a problem that will be fixed by changing the gear oil or it may have another problem too. It feels like the engine doesnt get enought power in the first 2 gears.

That's a lot of mileage. Here's what I would recommend from cheapest to more expensive:
1. Get a proper MB scanner and scan the car for fault codes focusing on the transmission codes. This will facilitate the diagnosis.
2. Change the transmission fluid and filter (a must since the current fluid is probably old and dirty). Inspect the old fluid and the magnet inside the pan and check for metal shavings.
3. Report back on 1 and 2.

Hello there again.
Sorry for the delay but it was the holidays time and didnt have time to adjust.
Today i changed the gear oil and filter.
directly i started driving and the same problem goes again. I will check it driving some days and hope it goes ok from the oil change.
The computer says only one problem but not about the gear system. The message is this one : Check component N14/3 ("GLOW OUTPUT STAGE" ) No signal.
Please let me know if you have any advice to share with me.

Thank you

I just noticed that your car is a CDI and a 2008. It might have the 5-speed transmission and not the 7-speed. Can you confirm which transmission it has?

The 722.6 5-speed transmissions are known to suffer from a conductor plate failure (motherboard). This causes jerky shifting and the transmission to lock up and stop shifting completely. But all these faults get captured when a scan is done using the MB scanner. Are you sure you did not get any transmission faults when scanned?

They also suffer from another problem where transmission fluid leaks from the transmission pilot bushing connector up through the wires and into the transmission control unit (TCU). You can look into that as well.

Well, you need to take it to the Mercedes Benz dealership or any mechanic that you trust and that work on MB cars, show them the problem, and have them diagnose and propose solutions. Nothing else I can recommend at this stage with any fault codes.

I think i fixed that problem.

After changing the gear oil, it didnt fix nothing. I asked the service guy about the gear computer reset but he told me that it only works for the 7G gear versions. Mine is a 5 gear.

So at the end i changes the Shift Valve and it seems okay from the first moment i left the service place. Hope it is all of it and everything goes ok from now.

The valve is the one attached as photo. Not that brand but something else, but that is the part i changed.

Thank you

Glad to hear you got it fixed and it's good that the transmission fluid and filter were also replaced in the process. Your transmission should be as good as ever now. Please let us know in a week or two if it's still working fine without problems.

He posted the fix on his. Do you also have the 5 speed transmission? On the 7 speed the torque converter is a known failure point, the clutch degrades and when it's supposed to be slipping it grabs and releases, causing the shudder/jumping felt that goes away when it's not slipping.

Where is this Shift Valve located ? I have a 220 CDI from 2008 that has some serious problems with the shifting, sometimes it does not know what gear to use and sometimes it locks it self and then i have to stop the engine and restart it to get it to work properly again..

Transmission problem

Two weeks ago my transmission stopped shifting I could only drive in Reverse or Second gear so I’ve changed the fluid and filter and now I had jerking while i was driving around 30mph and when I stopped at the traffic lights it kind of banged like slipping off the gear!
I wonder if anyone know anything or had similar issue and fixed the problem.

C 220cdi 2009 93.200miles

Cheers

W204 - 7 speed - 172000km. Shaky shifting between 4th gear to 5th.

W204 - 7 speed - 172000km. Shaky shifting between 4th gear to 5th. My patrol C250 is shaking when it is shifting from 4th gear to 5th it felt like rev is not matching to speed when gear changes. This only happenes when the car is hot. When it is cold shift is fine and all the other gear s change fine! Thank you

I had something similar happen to me last month and I was able to fix it by resetting all the transmission adaptations using Xentry then driving the car for a couple of hours with lots of upshifting and downshifting so that the transmission control unit can relearn the shift adaptations. Following the reset, all shifts were a bit harsh but they completely smoothed out after the couple hours of driving. Good luck.
