Rear ended by a cop!!

I was rear ended and am just curious what everyone has been experiencing lately as far as insurance totaling a car or not, and I know the people here will actually feel something when they see these pictures

Depends what damage lies underneath the exterior body panels. A new fascia, quarter panel, decklid and taillamp do not mean a total in my view. What other damage is present?

I think the threshhold to totaling it is about 40% of the value. Unless there is a bunch more structural damage I would guess they would pay to have it fixed.

What did the cop say when he hit you? Did he give himself a ticket?

the trunk arms are spring and will need pretty much repair on everything in the rear, the trunk the components inside and the amp is located there as well so maybe some re wiring

he wasn’t all that apologetic and no he didn’t lol, although he clearly was looking at his phone or something along that line, now I will say this models price is on there holy book the kbb is only valued at 8-10 k so I think with labor and the fact just a lid minus all the other stuff for the trunk is around 1 grand so I’m kinda hoping it’s totaled but if they fix it they’re gonna have to fix it to good as new my only issue is the fact it will lower the value even more with all this extra body work

Damage history will lower value even if fixed properly.

If you have the option, take it to the best place you can find and get a quote. I’m guessing totaled but if not look into diminished value claim.

Hers's a photo of my daughter's car rear ended at a stop light.
Initially the insurance company decided to fix the car. They estimated around $3600.00 in damages but after bodyshop removed the bumper there was significant structural damages and ended up being totaled.
On a side note, you did not have to wait long enough for a cop, lol!

MB’s of all kinds.
75% Of the cars value is what I think it is. Close to that they total it.
