W204 Engine coolant leak from top of tank
My car is a 2008 W204 C220. Two months ago, on a very cold morning I noticed the Check Coolant level error, checked the tank and it was a hair below the required level. Since then I got the message maybe 1 - 2 times , and every time i checked the level and it seemed ok.
Yesterday I drove the car for about 200 kilometers. This morning , before starting the engine (car was cooled overnight) i noticed coolant leakage around the tank cap (almost as it was pushed from there), driping on the tank, and the floor of the car was also wet. When I opened the cap, there was a burst of pressure and when I check the level of the coolant, it was about 2 fingers lower than it should be... I checked for cracks in the tank or on the hoses but they are perfect. The only place of leaking is from the cap itself.
Before I take it to a mechanic( cannot aford too untill saturday due to job), do you have any ideas of what it might be? Faulty tank top? Thermostat? or god forbid, the head gasket? The coolant was flushed 2 years ago, and it was filled with MB Benz coolant from their service.
Would gladly apreciate answers. Cheers.
The tank is made out of plastic so it will go bad.
I have brand new cap+tank sitting in the garage, I will install it when I will have to top off fluid every few months.
The replacement looks to be very straight forward.

so I am clear, I was referring to the reservoir cap.
The expansion tank is made out of two pieces, top half and bottom half, I notices white coolant residues in the summer days around where the two pieces are attached. That's the reason I have a new one ready to go just in case.
