How difficult to repair hole in armrest?

A C300 I am thinking of purchasing has this hole in the vinyl armrest on the driver's door. Is there any option for repair/replacement other than simply replacing the upper door card? It appears to be a $530 part and I just want to know what I am getting into.

Sorry I can't answer your question, but, man, I woudl like to know what happened to cause that damage.

Maybe see what the cost of a used door card would be. I would think with teh amount of W204s out there it wouldn't be that expensive or hard to find compared to a new one.

I had a similar issue with a Lexus I used to own. Of course, my car was out of warranty. I asked the service manager if they could recommend a repair shop. They went one better and told me that they had an upholstery repair shop that came to their dealership to do repairs like that. Mine was like either one of yours (I had one spot, not two), and it cost $125 to get it repaired. The repair was invisible to me, and lasted the 6 or 7 years I kept the car after that.

It would be worth asking about repair and whether the repair is warrantied. Dealers usually need to get this sort of stuff fixed to prep used cars, so they have all the sources.

A home gamer can get the Permatex Vinyl Ultra repair kit and do a decent fix.

The Ultra kit has an electric heater to set the black thermosetting resin.

About $20. A pro would do a better job but I used this on a 2005 C240 which had a small hole on the armrest and a crease crack on the driver’s seat bolster. I was happy with the repair.

Thanks. I don't need it to win any awards, I just don't want it to look like a dog took a bite out of my armrest!! However, upon further inspection of the photos, the wood trim is also damaged/cracked so it might just be worth replacing the whole door panel.

I do wonder how you'd build it up because it seems like some of the foam got scraped out.

After much consternation, I bought a used panel. Unfortunately, this used panel while having a fine armrest, had a damaged chrome strip that would've driven me nuts. So I decided I wanted to use the chrome strip from my old door panel. That sounds easy, but it's not. Basically it's the same procedure as what you'd need to do to replace your interior door handle. You have to drill out maybe 20 melted tabs, and eventually replace them with screws. Unfortunately it's hard to find screws that short. Eventually I was able to do it, though.

So now I have a used door panel on the car, with a fine armrest, but a slightly loose feel (if you push the panel in the right places) and a slightly out of alignment but in perfect condition chrome strip!!
