End of the Road for our Beloved M276 Engine

Just reading about the new 2021 E-class getting Mercedes' new straight-six engine in E450 trim (base car is the same junky four-cylinder but now called E350). This retires our lovely M276 and its' derivatives from at least the S and E model ranges. One would assume the various SUV six-cylinder cars are also moving to the new engine as well.

Hopefully the C class will continue to have a six-cylinder version in the regular/non-AMG range.

They're all switching over from the V6 config to I6, the amg versions are paired with a hybrid system as well.

Yes, I think I read the I6 is Mercedes' first implementation of the integral motor-generator that eliminates separate starter and alternator, and provides seamless "ECO" start/stop. My Honda hybrid has this and much better solution all the way around ...

Yes, the M276 is nearly finished. The GLE and GLS now use the 4 cylinder, inline 6 cylinder and V8 engines. The C43 is the only model left, it uses the M276 3.0L biturbo variant.

By which year did the high-pressure fuel pump and the rattling caused by the secondary chain tensioners/non-return valve problems get fixed for the M276?

Per: https://forums.mbclub.co.uk/threads/...ads-up.172521/
"M2768 engines prior to 276 8xx 30 001281 and M2769 engines prior to 276 9xx 30 406603 (February 2013) are affected."

Using Google, it appears engines as late as the 2013 time frame may be affected by high pressure fuel pump issues, although I did not find a definitive source.

These platforms, being 2013 or later, seem likely to be free of chain tensioner and HPFP issues, although this notion is based on personal experience and reading a number of other users' experiences:

W205 C-Class
W213 E-Class
W218 CLS-Class post-2014 facelift
W222 S-Class
W166 GLE-Class
X166 GLS-Class

The SL and SLK both used the M276, but I did not find a clear breakpoint of facelift or platform designation change around 2014 to create a breakpoint.

Thanks a lot for your input. This should come in handy and present a good starting point for research when it's time to purchase my next MB. Much appreciated.
