C-CLASS W204 FAULT CODE

Hi

Just need a little advice really. brought a scanner for my car to see if there are any fault codes. scanned it and i got one code P0017 Ill attach a picture, sorry if its come out very big but couldnt resize this image. just like to know if this is a big deal or a costly issue more then anything. I live in the hertfordshire area and if any merchanics are near to me and fancy the job and can give me a price, would be amazing. I know its a not a small job aswell. The engine warning light comes on for maybe a day then goes off for about a week. It doesnt affect my car at all driving wise or not that can i can tell. No misfires or juddering.

Many thanks in advance.

Quite a bit of info on YouTube about that code ..most point towards cylinder 1 bank exhaust cam sensor failure, a relatively easy and inexpensive DIY for most folks, not a big job. Of course if that doesn't fix the problem, the trail leads down deeper..crank sensor, OCV clog, ECU... I would erase the code first and see if it comes back but you already mentioned it is intermittent.. A high mileage 220 could have problems with stretched cam chain giving a P0017 code....engine would usually idle poorly, rough with possibly slack chain slap but again you say car runs fine. At least a cam sensor electrical connector inspection and clean, check for tightness is in order.

Cheers and Good Luck.

If it's a OM651 engine I would look at the timing chain/guides first.
If it's the earlier OM646 it is probably a sensor issue.
How many miles on the car ?
