Start problem
Yesterday I changest the left side xenon ballast. Before starting the job I turned the wheel fully right to be able to loosen the plastic cover inside the wheel house.
after the job was done I tried to start up the car but nothing happened. I could put in the key and also turn the key 2steps. But nothing happens. Steering lock is still engaged and I can’t move the steering wheel.
I don’t hear the normal click I usually hear when inserting the key.
I have tried the extra key and no joy.
my suspicion was first that something could have been wrong with the ballast, but if I use my key to open the car the exterior light goes on and xenon light works now.
When I also insert the key the instrument panel lights up.
The radio and door open lights also works.
Looking forward for any suggestions.

If you insert the key do you hear a whirr shound, or just silence, this is before you turn the key-?
I have read you can wiggle the steering wheel, maybe it comes right, maybe not.
It looks like "Sudden Death" of the steering lock(Maybe), iff whirr sound is missing).

I don’t hear any sound at all. Usually when I put in the key I hear like a click. After that click I can turn the key to start the motor. But now it’s silent and I can turn the key but nothing happens. When putting in the key the instrument panel light up but nothing els.

Yes that nonclick sounds familiar, when myne failed, I could open/close, lock/unlock the car, but no start.
It was caused by the steering lock(Least expensive part).
The garage replaced the EIS(Most expensive part), it was not that so they replaced the ESL steering lock motor(Outsourced product)

it’s a bit frustrating that MB use such poor system and that case so much problems and are so rediculess expensive.
