Unhappy USB Format Type for Car?

Just bought a 16GB Sandisk USB drive so I can put all my music on there and play it in the car. Which File Type do I need in order to play it? Will I choose the USB media type? Or Mass Storage?

The default was FAT32. I added the music, went to my car. It recognized the USB, using the USB media, but did not recognize the music files. I came up and changed it to exFAT...tried again, this time it would not recognize the USB at all. I could use some help on the right combo. Thanks in advance!

I use FAT32 for my 32GB PNY USB drive. My music files are in .mp3 format (various compression rates) and most of them play OK. Occasionally, one will not play even though it plays fine on my desktop. I even have folders sorted alphabetically by artist that I'm able to navigate to.

Thanks for getting back to me. My solution was to Format it as NTFS, kept the files as MP3 and the car was able to read it!
