Can OEM Xenon HeadLight Assemblies 'bolt on/plug-n-play' and Replace Halogen?

Hi,

I'm getting conflicting information from two dealerships, and hope the experts here can clarify. I have a 2010 W204 that came with halogen lights, is it possible to plug and play the complete OEM Xenon headlight assemblies and require no modification?

I ask because an old dealship where I used to live did not seat the halogen bulbs correctly when they replaced them and it melted the plastic that holds the bulb and they don't project well. This was identified by another dealership, that I now go to. The old dealership has no issues sending replacement assemblies, but it would be a 4month wait. However, they do have Xenon assemblies on hand, and told me they would send those, and that they should work just fine. BUT, the new dealership says the contrary, and that I must use halogen because of the wiring and fuses in my car???

Which is it? I would like to get it fixed as soon as possible, as the bulbs I have keep burning out, and don't light well.
They would be sendind parts: 204-820-31-39 and 204-820-32-39. [They originaly offered to send 204-820-29-39 and 204-820-30-39, but admitted they didn't know if the curve lights would work or not]

Thanks!

I have read sufficient posts in this forum to know that the change to Xenons from Halogens is definitely not plug and play

I agree. I use to have a 2010 and I did the readership as well. It’s not possible as a plug And play. You can however install HID aftermarket bulbs into the existing headlight specially since it’s a projector type. I bought Morimoto. They were great.

You need to install aftermarket bosch e46 replica projectors in your current headlights and get their xb55 ballast kit with bulbs. The original h7 wiring is more than capable to run the xenon.

I accepted the Xenon assemblies and figured I could just sell them if nothing else.
I ended up driving back down to the old dealership and have them install them, and they were done in about 40minutes. I don't see any modification or new wires and they seem to work fine.

What mods are expected for getting new OEM assemblies? I read around, but all I saw was the e46 replica modification that Mb4li5 mentioned. Unless I'm missing something, but I popped the bulb cover off, I see the Xenon ballast/bulb in the back with a steel braided cable. They work great, but I'm not sure how they did it.

Interesting. Because Xenon use an igniter/ballast the current draw is typically less than halogen bulbs, so the original wiring should be fine. I think if the newly installed lights work well, you should leave things alone.
