About to replace the brake booster (2013 C250). I noticed this piece of foam on the inside of the opening where the master cylinder attaches. Just shipping protection? It's a particular shape and reaches into the first three or four coils of the spring so I wonder if it's a part of the unit. I know it will become obvious when I remove the old booster but enquiring minds need to know.

 

It stops the spring resonating
